Best place for iTB's

  FF Clio 182
Sorry if this in the wrong place or has been answered before. I live in the southwest and was wondering where is the best place to get my 182 iTB'D, I mean all in for parts and labour. I know K-Tec do it for about £2700 all in but you must be able to get it cheaper else where.

Thanks

cheapest isn't best, i can confirm that by some of the s**t we get through the workshop

to do it properly you need £3K

Hey mate, it all depends on if you can source the parts 2nd hand - if you can get the bits at a good price then it will be 20-30% cheaper than buying new, but as a rule of thumb i'd be budgetingat least £2500-£2800 to do it properly if you cannot do any of the work yourself

But if you need convincing you're welcome to have a ride out in mine ;)

I don't need convincing :) I was just looking at prices mainly so if it is £3k for iTB's then might as well pay £4k and get a turbo :)

I got all 4 wheels off the floor top end of 3rd gear up by dans :S

IF you can get the bits cheap, put in some work yourself you should be able to make a good saving

Haha no where near! Did give it a little toe, but yeh I know what you mean, I did my mapping on my ITB'd one there. I was interested to see how yours went as its the spec I will have mine at when I manage to get to pay sharkey!

I used to use mine daily when it was first converted - but now it's just a weekend/track toy

They're really not very economical sitting in traffic lol
Mine was fine in traffic. Something not right with yours IMO, you're always moaning about people with cams having better power.

My mk1 and 172 were both used daily on its for extended periods in many weather conditions.

Gimme gimme gimme... LOL! :D

Just curious who uses there itb'd clio's daily then??
Yeah, mine is a daily driver. But where I live (and where I drive to/from work) I don't have any traffic to sit in whatsoever. Straight from front door to desk and vice versa.

I'd have no issues about using mine day to day, but as it's a toy it's normally once or twice a week at the mo.

If mapped properly and driven sensibly, the mpg should still be sensible, I used to get well over 30 mpg out my black one, and 40 wasn't a problem if driven sensibly.

Maps not right on my current one, but it's still managing high 20's/low 30's, and I'm not trying to drive economically.

This, ITBS shouldn't make F all difference to urban driving. Mapping is keeeeey

I'm not moaning people with cams have more power - I'm simply pointing out that a good set of cams with a good map produces nearly the same peak BHP as ITB's. Obviously not the same curve or power delivery - but for the money they are a good solution for people who don't want to throw £3k at ITB's

You can get 90% of the speed for 40% of the investment. And you don't have the hassle of christmas tree light dashboards and wired throttle body conversions. For most occasional track users I don't think ITB's are justifiable.

It's not bad in traffic either even with the little polo rad, it's smooth and driveable - it's just not economical.
There's nothing wrong with the fuelling or the map - it runs a wideband and the omex has narrowband control enabled. Idle's spot on the afr it should do.
It was mapped by the same guy who maps and supports the number 1 S2000 car in BTCC at the moment so I'm sure the mapping is fine ;)

You can't exactly expect a throttle bodied 2litre clio to be economical ticking over in traffic through town. I don't think any of us have built ITB'd clios to be economical either.

What do you call not economical phil? In normal driving i'd not expect it to be any worse than a standard car - imo of course :)

Flat out is a different story mind lol.

With the EC1 you don't have any hassle with dash lights, but as you say they do take a lot of wiring in, and going back to standard at any point is not an easy job.

Cams do get close to itb numbers, but I wouldn't say 90% - thing is people get so hung up on peak figures they dismiss the massive gain you get at lower revs.

What power does yours make? Really like yours

  DON'T SEND ME PM'S!!
I didn't have a single dash light on, and my functioning dash and fuel computer showed me 35mpg most of the time

You got a power graph of your car Phil? Interested to see the curve.

Yeah...

Well I was probably expecting too much from town driving as even my Passat TDi 4 motion struggles to get more than 30mpg on an everage week - but I guess I was getting 15-20mpg

It's just not great driving for the car - 7miles of traffic and it never really gets warmed up, it was just settling down into a warm map about a mile from work lol

Yeah I know people get hung up on peak figures - but honestly I've been out doing rolling tests against my ITB'd one and guys with cams and/or RS2 manifolds. There's not a huge amount in it. Mine has much more top end grunt but I wouldn't be unhappy with cams or an RS2 considering you're saving yourself £2k

I know my opinion isn't shared by anyone but I can see why £3k for ITB's is worth it for a track car, but for a daily/weekend fun toy I'd spend £1500 on cams instead and have 90% of the fun
It's difficult to justify £3k of ITB's in a £1500 clio. Unless you have the cash lying around and want the noise which is exactly what happened with me lol

  182 cup
Be patient and source the parts seperatly and enjoy building the kit up. You can spec exactly what you want then

Set up wrong then unless your wideband controller is simulating a narrowband sensor (which isn't optimal btw).

  DON'T SEND ME PM'S!!
also doesn't mean the lambda target table it correct. It's often incorrectly assumed that racecar mappers have the first clue about road cars or what they need for economy

It's got a dedicated narrowband - I'm not using wideband simulated as narrow as I understand that's a bit of a shite setup
And it runs at 14.7 on part throttle through town on the wideband display - so how exactly is it setup wrong?

I should also point out he asked if I wanted practical economy or track speed and I said track speed as it's not a daily drive. But still it seems to be setup fine to me

LOL it's always a big debate whenever I post anything about ITB's

I'm the only one that has a slightly (very slightly) negative view of them - I don't think on a road/semi track car they are worth the investment. But then the usual ITB fans rip my car apart and say it's mapped badly LOL

The question of highest BHP is kind of an irrelevant one as demonstrated above - if you have serious money you can have serious bhp
But for a realistic budget I'd say around 205bhp for £4-5k. You can get 240bhp if you start fitting uprated internals and up that budget to around £6-8k. Above that you're talking £££££'s

£4k gets you a drive in - drive out turbo conversion ;)

Same opinion as me then, why pay £3K for iTB's when all you doing to do is show them off to your mates. May make your car faster to the nearest KFC but not worth the price tag.

I think it a growing trend when it comes with the BHP. How much can get get out the F4R engine? How deep are your pockets? I currently run mine just as a daily runner so V6 airbox and a remap then that's me finished :)

No I don't agree with that at all. On track cars they are well worth the money, the power delivery is awesome.

I just think on most cars on here which are used every day to go to work and maybe see a track session at FCS each year if they're lucky there is very little point to them.
