Ah. When I said all I should have qualified that with all the dealers I used for my servicing. Was it an official Renault dealer? If so it seems that there isnt a standard oil that youve got to use. Just check its the right rating and good quality.

In response to chris_leic172... The 172 exhaust most certainly is not stainless as standard! Normal mild steel. The centre section baffles are a known weak spot. Have you spotted how the 3 year warranty specifically excludes the exhaust system?! It is only covered for the first year! Thanks...

I was told that an engine on a 172/182 costs about £7k if you ever needed a complete replacement. I know its the heart of the car but thats getting on for a gob smacking 50%!

Dont worry - Ive answered my own question. Over 200 quid for just the centre section from Renault. 275 for centre section and back box in stainless steel from Scorpion exhausts including delivery. Decided on the latter - not only for longevity but should please the next owner!!!
