So you think racing is too expensive, think again.

I've been thinking about going circuit racing for about 25 years, the cost of a car isn't the problem, it's the initial costs/hassle of ARDS test, medical, license, overalls, helmet etc at least £1000 before your first race then the entry fees and travel costs plus the possibility of being...

Could lack of droop cause coilovers to knock?

Have now lowered the 182, we think about an inch lower than standard, maybe a bit more, and it's driving nicely, with no bangs going over the same bumps as before. Now need to find a trackday to do!

Could lack of droop cause coilovers to knock?

Thanks for the replies, I'm not sure if I'm using the right terminology, by 15mm droop I meant that when we jack the car up the wheels only drop 15mm before reaching the bottom of the suspension travel which I think is the problem, having spoken to someone helpful at Spax they agree and we are...

Could lack of droop cause coilovers to knock?

Just looked at the specs of the RSX, they are advertised as for a 15-50mm ride height drop, think we are less than 15mm so maybe that is the problem.

Could lack of droop cause coilovers to knock?

Hear it and feel it, certainly something wrong somewhere. Got the K-Tec solid top mounts, just changed the bearings as there seemed to be a small amount of play in them but that wasn't the answer. Did try to talk to someone technical at Spax today but they didn't have anyone available with any...

Could lack of droop cause coilovers to knock?

Recently had a new set of Spax RSX coilovers fitted to my 182 Cup but can't get rid of a knocking noise from the front whenever I hit any kind of bump on our local country roads. The fitting was done by a very experienced race and rally mechanic who has been right through the front suspension...

    bilsteins for rallying ?

Thought the Gaz Golds were excellent and Gaz were very helpful and good value when I had a pair rebuilt. I think the key to a good rally setup is the springs, most coilovers are sold for trackdays/lowering and the springs are far too short and stiff for a bumpy road/offroad setup, the coilovers...

    bilsteins for rallying ?

I used to rally a Rover 214, sounds an unlikely weapon but a very effective enduro rally/road rally car along with the similar MGZRs, most of the top cars run Gaz Gold as did mine, we had 7" springs for tarmac, 9" for smooth gravel and 11" for rough road rallies, and adjusted the damping...

SERV, ABS and traction control lights all coming on!

Got fault codes read today, interesting to watch, very different from years ago when I started playing around with cars. Diagnosed a right rear ABS problem, will change the sensor and hope that solves it

SERV, ABS and traction control lights all coming on!

Thanks for the replies, know a friendly mechanic, will get him to read the fault codes. Yes, bought an Inferno Orange 182 Cup new in 2005, joined the forum but spent more time on a Renaultsport forum so never posted, started trackdaying with it but bit expensive if I crashed so bought a 172 Cup...

SERV, ABS and traction control lights all coming on!

Just bought a 182 Cup (my third 172/182 over the years), very happy with it but sometimes while driving the SERV, ABS and traction control lights all come on at once, car still drives fine and when I next start it lights are off, any ideas? It has much modified suspension, an RS Tuner 98RON...
