    Sticky stuff around window controls

    I think mine are the same as you describe, a gummy sticky dirty looking finish. I've tried all sorts to remove on them, even Tardis but no luck. As far as I can find out, it's breakdown of the standard finish and the only sulution is to rub them down and repaint them. I haven't done mne yet as...

    Refitting gearbox speed sensor

    Already posted this in another thread but in hindsight should probably have started my own! I have removed the speedo sensor from the gearbox on my Ph1 172, the problem I have is refitting it; plenty of posts on getting it out! I line up the two lugs on the sensor with the cut outs on the...

    Speed sensor in ph1

    Didn't see any point in starting a new thread to ask my question. I have also got a new speedo sensor, pulled the old one out but when I try to push the new one in it only goes as far as the blue o-ring at the top of the sensor; can't push it any harder. Did yours go all the way in no problem...

    using too much fuel.

    You mentioned that your brakes might not be right..........metal on metal certainly isn't good. If they are sticking then that wouldn't help fuel consumption. Easy to sort out if you know what you're doing, if not get, them checked, even the fast fit places do brakes now

    using too much fuel.

    I was getting about 28mpg with gentle driving, found one of my front brake calipers was binding slightly. Stripped, cleaned and re-greased all 4 calipers and can now get average 36 just running around rural roads without caning it.

    Dam alarm!!!

    Had similar happening to mine, i traced it to a dodgy bonnet switch. If you have a bonnet switch try taping it down so it thinks the bonnet is closed. set your alarm and see if that helps.

    AC Condenser

    Fair enough, suppose there's no point in taking the risk that the dryer is no good after putting it back together and paying for a recharge. New dryer it is.

    AC Condenser

    Thanks, think I'll go for a new one but good to see how easy replacement is.

    AC Condenser

    Had my 2001 phase 1 172 in today for service of the AC. Garage informed me that the condenser is leaking and requires replacement to the tune of £500!! No way on earth I'm paying that as I'm perfectly able to change the unit myself. After a scan of the internet there appears to be so many...
