Engine using oil and smoking - replacement/rebuild?

Renparts do replacement engines. Around £500 and they have yours off you in replacement. Are these guys good? Anyone know anything about them? Is there anyone in the midlands area that would want to swap an engine for a fixed fee if this was a viable option?

Engine using oil and smoking - replacement/rebuild?

What would I do with it after lol. Aircon is already de-gassed due to a leak in the system when I went to have it re-done. Didn't get it taxed on the road to actually sort it. A good thing in the long run!

Engine using oil and smoking - replacement/rebuild?

Your comments so far are bang on guys. I set aside as less over 1k as possible for an engine overhaul. A quote of around 1.2k has been given to me from a local engineering firm... I just don't want to rebuild an engine that is ultimately knackered. I can get friends over to help replace an...

    Scotty's 172 Project

After the rear exhaust mount rubber mount completely splitting and the back box resting on the metal at the bottom of the mount it was time to get it changed. At work today on lunch I changed the mount. Pretty easy to do, just a little difficult as the car is lowered so visibility wasn't...

    Scotty's 172 Project

After having a Clunking/Vibrating Steering problem for the past month I finally found the problem. After securing the top engine mount again I decided to re-assess the top gearbox mount. Out come the necessaries and immediately the problem was apparent. The two bolts had sheered their nuts...

    Scotty's 172 Project

Still no "track focused" upgrades but the car is slowly but surely coming along! I had Dave at DMB print me some Renault Sport stickers to liven the look up slightly. I wanted them to be subtle and not look silly or scream "boy racer". After all I am still driving it to work atm. Before...

    Scotty's 172 Project

I have now had the two complete top suspension mounts changed by the garage. These have made a further difference to the steering and handling of the car. The trouble is now the camber of the front wheels is slightly out. I'll need to get this re-done. I also decided to give the car a bit of a...

    Scotty's 172 Project

I've not done an update for a while now so wanted to fill the gap. About a month ago I took the car to my normal garage to have the gearbox oil changed. It was a bit of a faff but I'm glad I had it done. There was a couple of nice cars there too: It was nice to see there was oil still...

    Scotty's 172 Project

Today I managed to rope Kev in on the job. He is very good at technical mechanical situations and has a good problem solving logic. He clearly was ideal for the job. The only issue was the fact I hadn't told him what he would be doing. I said I needed help with the clio. I'm pretty confident if...

Engine using oil and smoking - replacement/rebuild?

Right... I picked a phase 2 172 up ready for the scrap yard. Replaced pretty much everything there is to replace except the engine internal and gearbox (was only 78k on clock). I did have the dephaser, cambelt kit, aux, alternator & battery done for the engine. It unfortunately leaves some nice...

Puddles in my rear footwells - HELP

Hey All, Every time it rains I go out and find there is 1cm deep puddles in my rear footwells... especially the offside (drivers side) rear footwell. Could someone tell me what seal is letting this water in and where it's draining. I'm desperate to stop this before it causes too much damage.

When turning left there is a Juddering / Vibration

I am determined to be the very first person to add a resolution to this problem. Last night i went out and pulled the battery out. The gearbox mount was moving around. The nuts had come loose on the bolts and was allowing a significant movement of the engine. I've ordered some new nuts and...

When turning left there is a Juddering / Vibration

I've had this Juddering/Vibration for a while now. I've had pretty much everything changed on this damn car so getting quite frustrated with it. When turning left and putting some load on the front right wheel it feels like I'm going over a load of those lines in the road (the ones you go over...
