double your budget and go for a suzuki ltz. it runs a drz400 engine - so parts are easierly available. The engines are very reliable as long as valves/timing chains are adjusted, and they get regular oil changes.
stick with a known brand as at least you will see some return when you come to...
obviously it was serviced. but the cost always covered and lost in the truck maintence, it was classed as a fleet vehicle. the OP was refering to the cost to him.
not really,
1 it wasnt being drven hard
2. the build quality of the older mercs is brillant
still ran spot on when it was sold. thats why the spanish use them as taxis
not bad really,. me mum used to have a merc e class diesel. apart from a 2 set of tyres and a set of brakes all round, it cost 20p in ten years. small clip on the throttle broke. bought with 25k on the clock and sold with 125k on the clock
having a major clearout of all my stuff, few clio bits available from my 172.

its bent round. no idea why but will probably have a filter so i not too worried about it. im surprized you even had brakes tbh as the brake servo take off point is on the wrong side facing into the alternator bracket. unless they ran a modified pipe, they couldnt be fitted properly.
just look for the discoloured parts on them. i got the car with a snapped timing belt and it had bent all the valves and just simply pushed all the rockers off. never owned let alone rebuilt any renault before so just lack of knowledge really.
