On the back of the subframe there are holes for a deep socket to get onto the head of the bolt that goes through that clamped nut.

After fitting the steering rack bushes i noticed the tie rod covers were very perished so assuming theyve never been changed i ordered 2 new tie rods with covers from RPD and fantastic service as usual.
Iv also got to fit the flywheel from my original engine so obviously bought some bew...
Had a quick half hour earlier so removed the old wiring loom from the original engine and also the gearbox to be greeted with not much of a release bearing and a pretty smooth friction plate lol.
I also swapped out the old steering rack bushes for some black series powerflex.

Finally an update.
Rather than spend money on the engine i bought another with all the work already done as it cost a hell of a lot less, i was also given the PMS A/C delete bracket which again saved me a few quid. Thanks @AdamCup
Next up iv also bout an MTC silicone hose kit and a decat...

If this is the same engine as the 1.9 cdti in the astra then you dont need to remove the cambelt to do the swirl flaps ;)
I had a customer with the 1.9 and if you pin the fuel pump (with the bolts taken out of the fuelpump) it holds it all in place and you can remove the inlet...
Was the slave cylinder replaced aswell as i had an astra in that would just about drive and rattled it knackers off until clutch was pressed. The spring had snapped on the slave cylinder causing the rattle so replaced it all for good measure.
