Show me your extinguishers

On the fence about whether to go for a handheld or plumb in a lifeline etc. I am looking for a tidy solution though.

Show me what you’ve got, I think a handheld by the passenger seat would be preferential for the time being. I did message pure track a number of times but they’ve not come back to me

I have this:

Bought because it was fairly compact. However I went to Halfords recently and they had a pretty ok range for less. For a dedicated track car I can certainly see the advantages of a plumbed in system with an internal/external trigger. Theres no way I am unlatching my extinguisher in time for anything bar a small external fire, or to help someone else.

If you were unconscious, or had a passenger struggling to get out etc. they wouldn't be much cop. So if you have the money and its a dedicated track car you can never really do enough (imo).

Personally I don’t think you can have too much protection. Having seen a friends car after a fire that totally destroyed it. He had two hand held extinguishers on board. One he had within reach and the other in the boot compartment. Car being mid engined the boot one was inaccessible due to the flames, so the one he did have access to was pretty much next to useless. Maybe the scenario could have been different with a plumbed in system as there may have been a chance to kill the flames. But either way he got out ok so this I think is the important thing. Buying time to extricate yourself or to be dragged out. So I have a plumbed in and hand held. Not the most high tech cutting edge system but nozzles covering the fuel rail area along with one for the drivers footwell. Hand held is in front of passenger seat so again fairly accessible. Anything is better than nothing as you only need to have a small fire turn bad very quickly. I’d go both given the choice as a handheld can also be used outside of the car if you ever need it to help someone else.

I'm really not a fan of those fire stick extinguishers, you have to get pretty close to the fire to smother them and there's no cooling effect either.

For occasional track use I'd want a 2.4L AFFF extinguisher as a minimum, for something that's dedicated track use then I'd go plumbed in and have a portable extinguisher inside the car too

Yeah, I’ve seen those fire sticks be entirely useless more than I’ve seen them do anything

A handheld that fits in the car is pretty much pointless. A proper plumbed in one would be the best option along with a fire stick in the cabin imo.
