Another one - Sport yellow meg 250 cup.

Another car in the collection and its another meg 250 cup.

Mrs fancied it and bought it. It was too good to turn down as only one owner from new, 17k on the clock, well specced with yellow dot recaros and a couple of mods, 3" ktec exhaust, forge intercooler, itg drop in filter and mapped by rstuning 325hp/360ft/lb.

As always there is a back story with it. Going back to 2018, we had just bought the old sport yellow 250 cup which was low mileage around 32k and ticked all the boxes (aka yel cup that we sold to Mossy).

Browsing meganesport group on facebook in 2018 we see a pic of another sport yellow 10 reg 250 cup with 17'000 miles on, 1 owner and it looks mint and the owner is flirting with selling it, its garaged and laid up. We both thought that it would be unreal to buy, but at the time we had just got the old mk3 250 cup and were happy/couldnt be arsed selling it to buy another the same colour.

Anyway yel cup gives us a bit of bother from the off, needing new suspension etc, fitted bc coilovers and instantly hated them. This takes the shine off the car massively but i put it right, spend a small fortune on new oem bits and then its sold August 2020.

We both agree that the mk3 megane rs box has been ticked. Didnt like it and mk2 meg is king, wouldnt be able to find an example as good nick as the sold one etc etc repeating hated bc coilovers several times.

Anyway time goes on and its a healer and we agree that prob sold the last one in haste as the right buyer/money was on the table. 2023 the mrs was thinking about another one and it has to be a cup not a ff with cup pack. Thought about putting an offer in on the old one to buy back, but as we would need to change suspension for a different setup that idea is shelved. The big question on our mind is what happened to the 17k one and wonder if its still kicking about and it would be a nice one to buy.

The desire to buy another mk3 rs fades briefly as all we are seeing are high miler well used 250 cups for sale or well used track cars and they were not ticking the boxes.

2024 comes and the 17k pops up on facebook again. Couldnt believe it.

Unicorn low miler.

At the time its Feb/winter and we couldnt be arsed as its winter and not using anything much apart from the daily driver clio. See loads of comments on the post and assume that it will sell fast to the right buyer.

May 2024 - i see the previous owner comment that its still for sale on a wanted add for a 250. Mrs is tempted so fires a message asking for more info. Its a slow burner as the owner works away through the week, and we have a summer holiday booked and imminent. Im dieting hard for holidays and serious lack of energy so a loose date is agreed to view when we return from hols "if it sells it sells".

Get back from hols and the car is still available and date to view is set. Its in Norwich which is a mega drive for us around 450mile round trip and on crap roads.

Fill up the R26 with fuel and set off early doors - the day of the euro 2024 finals. Seems sensible as we both hate football and roads might be quieter on return journey.

After what feels like the shittest drive ever, A1 then A17/A47 we arrive in Norwich. Its not raining and the sun is out, i have a look around the car and cant believe the condition, it looks absolutely unreal, paintwork is great, no dents, less than a handful of stonechips. Timewarp condition in some respects, looks like it could be a year old instead of 14 years old.

Get chatting to the owner and ask for a test drive. Took it down some b roads and its just like a new car, everything is tight and rattle free. Goes and sounds loads better than the old one.

Owner says the boot has never been used. Rear seats have never been used. Hes just had it recomissioned with near 3k bill after 8 years dormant in a nice dry garage. Its had cambelt, aux kit, all fluids flushed for fresh, new battery and fresh brake pads/fluid, brand new Michelin PS4S all round and the bill in total was close to 3k for the pleasure. Hes done a handful of miles since recomission and his mrs wont get in it as she gets travel sick, and hes out of the car/renault scene so its just sat there doing nothing basically.

Looking at the paperwork and its got original bill of sale, showing options checked (all important recaros and cup chassis, floor mats, 19" Steev wheels, Rs monitor. Drl's, dual climate etc). All the sales packs that come with it are present, basically everything you get new. Its still wearing its original dealer stamped plates and key ring on the spare key. The original exhaust and intercooler are available to go with it. A price is agreed, paid for and i load up the spares into the R26.

Old vs new.

Fill up with Vpower as thats all that we can find local. Journey is uneventful with a couple of stops and it returns decent mpg, exhaust on it sounds mega on boost/sport mode with pops and bangs. Goes well and effortless to drive fast. Stock cup suspension is great on the b roads.

Double trouble.

With CSF a weeks away and i have a ton of other s**t to do to both vehicles i plan on taking its parked up until time is available. Mileage stops at 17777 on the drive!

Previous owner had a ton of pics on his facebook that he let us download. Its great to know the full history from the off. Previous owner (PO) seen it on the back of the car transporter whilst at work waiting for it to be delivered.

In transport for delivery. PO was waiting for delivery and seen it go past in Norwich so spun round and got a pic. How good would that be seeing your new Rs on route after waiting.

At Holden renault when delivered. Note the pre delivery protection on doors etc.

Not sure on date on this one but in the early years.
IMG-20240801-WA0062.jpg

Forge intercooler fitting. PO said when this was bought/fitted years ago there was hardly any aftermarket parts as the car was only a year or so old.

Mapping at RsTuning 2010/2011. Its had a few maps/runs on the dyno from looking at the history.

Cheers all. Was awesome to hear the history from new off the PO, very rarely get the full story from new.

To conclude original owner - around 2015 the car was garaged and didnt move due to work/life etc until recommission this year. A nice dry garage has preserved it so well though.

I can't imagine seeing your new car on the trailer to the dealer. Must've been a great feeling! You have a stunner there.

I managed to grab a hour to give it a clean earlier this week, evening wash when weather cooled off. First wash did not reveal any issues at all, bodywork needs a few bits of tar removing on lower sides and it needs some protection but will be going for a detail/ceramic coat soon so opted not to go too mad.

First job was remove the pistonheads sticker. I didnt mind it but had to go.

Mid sticker removal and sooty tailpipe trim.

Brembo calipers and wheels still fresh.

Ph sticker removed and tailpipe surround cleaned.

The eagle eyed might have noticed the cup badges were on the pre delivery pics but not on the pics after. Previous owner didnt like them so got the dealer to remove. We personally like the cup badges and wanted to reinstate them, however they are NLA from renault and rocking horse s**t to find.

After a bit of sniffing around i found out they are the same badge on Clio mk3 Rs200 cup. More digging revealed somebody had copied them perfectly and Taylor Made Decals were producing them. Got in touch and he had them in stock and reasonable price £20 for a pair delivered.

New cup badges.

Fitted, look spot on.

Only had a quick look underneath, its super clean. Ill wash this down on a lift and lanoguard it all to preserve.

Clean.

Updates.

Used the 250 a couple of times recently and all good.

Took it down my mates garage so could have a look at the underside on the lift to see whats what. Nothing to note all looks excellent.

Updates.

Quick clean up yesterday. There was no beading and and assume no protection on it, so give it a coating of gtechniq c2v3 to keep it going until we get it in for correction and coating next year. Meganesport sticker on rear window also went the journey after the pics.

Unicorn find that! Lovely motor, sport yellow is it?

Cheers mate, It is indeed sport yellow. Im not sure if there is a couple of different shades as it looks slightly lighter than the old one we had. Assume no fading to this as its been garaged forever.

It feels absolutely planted on the back roads on stock cup suspension. Exhaust sounds great when on it too.

I actually feel like ive enjoyed driving this already as all its needed is fuel since buying and not had to lay a spanner on it. Almost unheard of for a megane rs.

How it should be. Nice! Did you not go Autos de france? Was seeing if I could see one of your fleet but wasn't there long

I run the standard cup suspension on my 275 and must agree, it is so so good at dealing with our poor road surfaces, big bumps, heavy camber etc you can push on very hard and it settles quickly, I would love for it to be a little lower at the front by an inch or so for the looks, but scared to fit springs as most are just not so good when pushing on a b road, makes my 172 feel poor 🫣 not bad for a rattly 8yr old renault sh£tbox 😂

You should look to get it remapped to release a few more ponies, don't need any mods

Looks lovely mate.
A lot to be said for just turning the key and enjoying a std car mate. Although im still struggling not to dick about with my 300. lol

Cheers mate. Im glad its been good and not broken yet as i never enjoyed the old one we had after replacing all the suspension after 300 miles of owning it. Hated it after that it royally killed the honeymoon period 😅

Cheers mate. I was booked to go with the Kangoo but didnt bother in the end as was knackered after driving all week and a s**t load to do at home. Regret not making the effort now as would have been good to catch up.

100% bang on the money mate. Stock cup setup rides the poor surfaces great, confidence inspiring on b roads. Megs always feel a bit skitty when lowered on b roads, i hated the bc coilovers on our old one. Do wonder what the ohlins are like compared to stock.

Agreed on remap it makes a massive difference. This with intercooler, exhaust and map is miles quicker than the old one.

Supposed to be 325hp on dyno printout, but when me and the mrs had a play on the way back from picking it up the r26 stuck on its arse end until just into the triple figures. Id estimate its 300hp on a good day. Need to get it to efi for a map in the new year.
