Back in another Clio. I'm always keeping an eye out as would love another Ph1 172.
This popped up on Gumtree a site I don't check that often but having the flu I had extra time. This car was posted the same day and being nearby I managed to go and have a look and purchased later on the same day.
Some brief detail it's a 2000, W plate one owner 1.4 16v Si and it's done under 23,000 miles.
The back story was the guy selling it got it from a garage who got it from a breakers, it was technically due to be crushed/broken.
Bit of an odd set up but I have the V5 unfortunately no other paper work. Although 2 keys.
The car really is immaculate. The arches, like new along with the interior which smells it. Couple small dings on the rear quarter and a few small scratches.
Early days but not really sure why I bought it or why I need it. Couple options.
Sell my Saab 93 which is my daily and use this.
Or
Wife needs to learn to drive, good starter car
Or
Brother needs car but doesn't seem bothered
Or
Go back to 100% original, geek out on original dealer plates, alloys, trim etc
Or
@Djw John suggested making it a Ph1 Trophy. Oh so tempting. Seats alone would be more than the cost of the car!
I'll get more detailed pictures. Weather has gone crap again here. To really geek out I have now put the Clio in a carcoon. I had this ready for putting the V6 in but I store this elsewhre and it's currently SORN. Picture of the V6, why not.
I'll try and keep this thread up to date if of interest. Today I done some digging, sad I know.
The car was MOT'd just in August so I went to the testing garage, they said they had MOT'd it for the past few years but nothing else to really tell me. Sure he said it needed an exhaust in 2016/17. I'll get a picture of it /under the car, it still looks new.
I then went to the address on the V5. Not sure if this is allowed but sadly nobody in, double garage noted however.
I then visited a car dismantler. First one was the wrong place but I got a side repeater for my Saab for £3. Second place was where the car came from. The chap explained the owners daughter dropped it off as sadly the mum had cancer they just wanted rid.
I'd love to have found out more especially with the add ons but I won't be looking into anything further.
I did try Renault, after giving details I was on hold for 15mims to be told they don't have info. Only takeaways was that it was purchased on the 13th of May 2000 and the original plate is W886 UOA. No plate change on the V5 but it was reissued in 2013 so assume change of address. It does have the original key rings. Renault Solihull.
Only issue I have come across is that it is hesitant when starting from cold. Needs a few blips of the throttle. Needs looked into but other than that it's spot on. I'll likely look at getting it serviced/checked over.
Anyway apologies for the lengthy thread!
