New, Fully Electric Renault 5

Any takeaways @Sash good or bad?
Soooo comfortable ❤️
Rear door visibility is better than the Clio, the rear window however is pretty useless. The Reno avatar is cool, you can open and close windows, turn on and off the window demisters and loads of other stuff just using your voice. I’ve asked the local test centre if this can be used on test for the show me questions… I’m waiting on an answer!

The range on the one I drove today which was apparently the smaller battery was about 236 miles which isn’t that bad.
The personalisation is cool too, so all the stupid driver aids like lane assist etc are able to be switched off at the double press of a button and you can personalise it to be exactly how you want. The over speed warning isn’t too intrusive either.

I’d really have liked to have a whole day with it to really get to know it better but I guess I’ll have to wait till April for that!

I doubt they let her grab a Chinese while on a test drive mate.
Lol probably could have done, the Renault trainer guy was sound! He didn’t care what we did or where we went !

Any update on the pedals?
No, sadly not 😩

  RS MEG, 182
I called in at Renault Manchester today for a nosey, seeing as I was driving past.

I think the new R5 in yellow with the decal pack and larger wheels looks amazing. The interior is a nice place to be, and to be fair the payments via carwow make it a good contender. I just couldn’t make the maths work with mileage. I think as a second car it’s a good entry to all things electric. I’ll stick with Megan for the time being.
It’s very retro and looks much better in the flesh.

What's the seating position like for height?

My parents want something a bit easier to get into than their Mini, looked at the Yaris but it's no better really, this looks ideal since I'd get to borrow it without having to own an EV 🤣

I am a big yellow fan. But do we really think the grey/black/white buying public will get it.

I remember years ago a bloke at wok had a yellow Celica then a yellow Seat. Had a nightmare selling on.

I know LY are popular but generally because of rarity. If 50 people want one. 30 made and 1 for sale every 2 months it will command a premium.

(same for the Green I guess)

I think the colour choices are very limited. Renault have had some fantastic colours in the past, at least they could offer a decent red or blue alongside the green and yellow.

I hope the Alpine gets the atelier program so they don't just sell blue and black ones.

The midnight blue looks pretty good to me.

Seems a fairly typical Renault thing to bring more colours out down the line.

The 182 only launched with 4 colours initially iirc.

I think they’ve made a sensible choice, it’s a funky car and making the “free” colour a bold one will make it stand out from the herd.

Even if the reaction is just “I like that, but in a different colour” it’s still capturing attention.

Are the seats as vile as they look in photos?
Yes.
The main reason I ordered a Techno not the Iconic5.

They are mega comfortable though but apparently there’s not much room behind my seat when I’m driving. I’m 5’6” but have a fat arse so probably have the seat in a normal sized 6’ persons position.

Hoping to get a test drive tomorrow, possibly Tuesday. Usual cheesy video already in from the dealer.

The two below are in the Edinburgh garage. I'd go midnight blue but would like to see one in person. I think the 'yellow' seats may work. Personally prefer the alloys on the higher spec version.

I put my seat in what I thought was my driving position. I'm 5'9 but room in the back was very tight which I kind of expected.

Yellow does look brilliant but a bit bold for me.

I did ask about the baguette holder 😅 they checked the system and it was £40 but it didn't look like it was available - yet.

That photo I have taken is cr ap. Look good in person and comfy.

The green block on the reg plate is that a requirement now for ULEZ, I'm guessing or can you have a normal plate?

Nothing to do with ULEZ etc, it’s just to make the car easily identifiable as an EV.

I asked BMW to give me normal plates but they said no because it was “for safety”, whatever that means. Couldn’t be arsed to push the point, I suspect it was just a “computer says no” response. Not sure what Renault’s stance will be.

There is no legal requirement to have a “green plate” so it can always be changed later.

Might be so the emergency services know it’s an Ev in the event of a crash

I thought that, but it’s not logical because hybrids don’t have them and they can have pretty chunky battery packs plus a tank of diesel/petrol making a reeeely lovely combination.

Nearest I can find from the government announcement at the time was some vague b****cks about raising awareness of zero emission vehicles and an equally vague (and stupid) suggestion that a green sticker on a number plate might make it “easier to access savings”, because if it worked that way no-one would just buy some green stickers, oh no.

That's the first time I've seen the green rectangle on the number plate look okay.
