Last run out today for the Williams 3. Went up the bypass to Alderley Edge and seemed to be a bit of an event on with lots of people out and plenty of more modern modded stuff around. The Willy still got appreciation from plenty I’m pleased to say! Doubt I’ll be back out in it for a few months now.

Fault - blower motor regularly stops after about a minute from cold,
Heater Resistor replaced with a cheap Chinese chappie (£15) today in cold and rain, but all is well again.
Mosfet heating up and going open circuit I guess.

Couple of things sorted on mine.

New boot struts fitted thanks to @Alastair. for the link and a big thanks to @ex-Chinese Dave for selling me his Spare Turini that needed a bit of tlc. Had it refurbished over at Piston and Rotor in Bury for a pretty decent price. Also managed to find a matching PS3 with loads of tread and a 2024 date for cheap on eBay for them to put on it.

I found a tool kit with the deeper yellow fastener to finish it off and added a better wheel wrench on some reusable zip ties that fit my bolts.

Just need a boot carpet in decent nick if anyone has one?

Got a brand new boxed OEM grill earlier this week for £85 lol. Fitted today.

Side note, anyone know for def if an electrical warning light on the dash is an MOT failure? My understanding is that it's not. Cheers

@Matt Cup

Maybe just my OCD talking but I would put the toolkit in first then then the Turini over the top of it so that the toolkit is under the wheel. Just in case the face of the Turini gets scratched up.

Cheers, I don’t know how that’d work as there would be no way of securing the wheel down that way would there?

Also It’s hard to see but I put a load of non slip rug stuff on the boot floor to prevent damage to the face of the wheel.

Ahh I didn't see the rugs there - nice! ahh you don't have the black locking top for the toolkit?

Hmmm, I may have but as I couldn’t figure out how that fit with the wheel in this position I may have binned it 🤐

Just in the event anyone searches etc - not an MOT fail. My mechanic is very strict but was confident this wouldn't be a fail.

I think it depends what the warning light is. If it's an abs fault, my understanding is that it's a safety issue and would be a fail.
I'm guessing it depends on the MOT tester, how well you know them 😉

This is interesting as I have the same issue. The toolkit fastener I have is a bit short. Where did you source the yellow piece? Look jus the job.

Also, agreed I don't think wheel face will work.

Few jobs over the weekend; 4 new Magnetti injectors fitted & headlights restored/sanded. All pedal fronts removed after they had been badly glued on by one of the prior owners, sanded/rotary polished them and the pedals then metal araldite'd back on - looking mint.

Motor's just hit 130k and is going in for its MOT on Friday. All ready!

What was done regarding the wiring (I see you've mentioned 'adapter cables')?
Seen these SXE-1325S speakers used in another thread. Teetering about ordering a set of these myself.
Got a Blaupunkt Skagen headunit inbound to replace the OEM unit already.

Hi mate,

The Renault wiring terminated in a white connector (seen in that 2nd pic above) that was incompatible as a direct fit into both sets of Alpine speakers.

The link below shows one pack that contains two adapters for £4.99 - so you'll need two packs, if you upgrade all four speakers.

I assume being in Australia, that you might be able to source the equivalent a lot closer or cheaper than the delivery Down Under?

Also of note - the Renault OEM speakers had a spongy foam backing, running around the rear of the speaker rim. None of the Alpine speakers had this - so it would have been plastic on plastic and could have potentially vibrated. I had a reel of thin double-sided foam that I cut strips off and stuck them to the mounting areas of the door cards themselves - leaving the protective film coating on the speaker-facing side for easy removal, if I ever needed to in the future.

All four speakers had just two mounting screws in them - despite the door cards clearly supporting four screws. I added additional screws to secure the new speakers in place. The screws that came with the Alpine speakers were fine for the rear fittings - but the existing holes in the front door cards need larger/fatter screws.

Updated the OEM speakers today with some Alpine units and adapter cables.

Definitely happy with the mild upgrade - just makes the audio sound a bit fuller and richer without sounding like a Max Power t**t from 2002.

Big thanks again to @Daz... for cabling advice and assistance, too.

Awesome mate, I decided to get a set of SXE-1325S for myself. Got the adaptor too will be fitting this week! I just checked the car, it still has the OEM speakers after 22 years. The front left one has developed a crackle so worth replacing.

Nice one. :)

The difference I've noticed, is subtle but clearly there. Short of spending £££ on a stereo upgrade that I've no real interest in, these have just added a bit more to what I've already got.

If anything, I might need to reduce the bass setting a little on my head unit!

That's great!
Thanks for the in-depth response. That give some good insight 🙂

What's the reasoning for two different speaker models and not just using SXE-1325S for all four?

In all honesty - I have no idea!

Visually, the OEM speakers were different spec and had a different part number:-

Front - Renault part number 8200069123
Rear - Renault part number 8200108290

They do look a fair bit different - front on the left, rear on the right.

Left (front speaker) is a component speaker, because the tweeter is a separate unit under the dashboard, right (rear speakers) are coaxial speakers and have the tweeter built in.

Coaxial is usually a convenient, plug and play install, but compromised in terms of quality due to the combined woofer and tweeter.

Component installation is more involved, you're working with separate woofers and tweeters, crossovers, more things to tweak via head unit and/or amp which should result in higher overall sound quality.

It's a loud, rattly, 20 year old French hothatch and the original speakers are cheap and probably shot so those Alpines are a great upgrade. You must've felt the weight difference!

Actually that makes sense, I will be fitting the SXE-1325S in the rear and will get the SXE-1350S to fit in the front (doors + dash)

Took my Cup to do an event at Silverstone (VSCC Pomeroy Trophy) basically a few auto tests in the morning then a 40 minute high speed trial in the afternoon, all going well until I thought I would just double check the tightness of the wheel bolts got to the last wheel....then snap! Bolt broke off. I had an hour or so to try to get this sorted with minimal tools, took the wheel off and then managed to find (at the other end of the pitlane) someone with a drill and drill bits, got to work drilling it out then hammered an Allen socket into and gently turned and managed to turn the end of the bolt out. Fortunately I had a spare to put on and was all sorted. Did the 40 minutes all fine but noticed the battery light coming on at high revs 6500rpm, didn't think much of it at the time, packed everything up and set off for home, it was dark so lights on then lights started to get dimmer and dimmer and then car ran rough and eventually cut out.. Suspected alternator packed up.. fortunately I wasn't too far away and managed to get it collected and trailered home..

French cars like to test you... Anyway here some photos

Also Richard Hammond and his daughter were also competing and had camera crews around them so look out for a video by Hammond on it.
