Hi, who did it? Whereabouts are they? I want a new one for a FF Phase 2 172.

First of all I rang Renault for the part no and to see if they could order one for me? The back order from there had no eta which I presume meant they won’t be able to get me one.

Fortunately a fella on Facebook contacted me selling an original screen that his mate didn’t get round to using.

I then got a local firm come round to my house remove the old screen to fit the new one.

Yours might be easier to get hold of being a FF as it’ll have the regular blue tinted screen.

Cheers :)
I'll get searching for one. Hopefully it will be easy to get one. It has some chips and has started to delaminate in the bottom corners. It looks ok at first glance, but bugs me!
I'll get a new screen surround kit too :)

Not today, but on Sunday I had my preventative maintenance head on.

  • Swapped out the inlet O-ring.
  • Added a new inlet gasket while I was there.
  • Removed the TDC sensor and gave that a good clean up.
  • Cleaned up the relay tray and inserted them back in.
  • Cleaned out the fuse panel and wire brushed the fuses, before put them back in. The dust blaster thing I have blew out a lot of debris in and around that area too.
  • Noticed that one of the air tubes into the airbox wasn’t twisted into the opening correctly, leaving a fairly large gap.
  • Cleaned up the main contacts on the coil pack that looked a bit tired. Out of interest - does the 4-pin wire that connects on the right-side only have 3 connectors in it? (image below).
  • Disconnected the battery terminals and gave them a good clean up too as they were layered in shite.
  • Reconnected the bonnet release warning button as well as the wiring had disconnected somehow from the switch.
  • Added two bits of sticky foam to the ECU box to stop the little fecker rattling.

Flicked off the exhaust tip surrounds over the weekend to get them painted up - proper faded and crap looking. High winds put paid to that, however!

Still, got them sanded ready for primer. Might give those exhaust tips a once over with some polish while I'm there.

As they were just textured plastic, wouldn’t a heat gun or some plastic restorer get them back to as good as new?

My Saturday morning consisted of swapping this.

I'm not sure if applying heat is a good idea. When I last spoke to local detailer, they say a heat gun just brings oils to the surface for a quick remedy. Once the surface oils evaporate. The platic looses its colour, elasticity and usually becomes brittle. The more you do it; the worse it gets.
I think that is why the clio 182 exhaust trims always look grey.

I'd say that infomation is relevant for all cars. But probably more weighted to Perth cars, as the plastics have already been heat gun treated from the sun.

Last year I used a product called 'Mr Black' from Bowdens Own (Aus company). All exterior black platics were treated. But specifically for the exhaust trims, it's held up so far to the heat and the suns UV. Not sure what the equivalent would be in the UK.

Fair comment. To be honest I’ve just seen clips of people doing it. I just use AG bumper and trim restorer on my black bits.

Gearbox oil change this morning. The stuff that came out of it was absolutely disgusting and a bit grey and sparkly, and I would assume is in dire need of a refurb.

As a plus point the change is smooth and the whine isn’t very noticeable from the short trip around the block.

What oil did you put in it? I've read that northloopcup recommends redline MTL.
Apparently redline have moved the production facility recently; so there is a shortage of their product globally. I was told from the local WA imported/distributor that there is a 3-6months wait on some stuff o_O.
If that is the case. Lucky enough to purchases their last 4 quarts.

Removed the undertray and removed the incontinence pad that had probably been there since new, cleaned off all the crud, old oil and dust, messy job, now refitted minus pad, anyone else got the original pad still on?

Yep - still got my undertray - though not the original one. The creatures at Renault Bury either forgot to put it back on or ate it - but they denied all knowledge when my car was there donkey's years ago.

Bought a replacement off a CS member on here and still have it to this day.

Today began the process of fitting my sound system into my new 182 that I used to run in my old 1.4 Clio. A Sony DSX-A416BT head unit, Pioneer 6x9s and a Cerwin VEGA VMAX 12.2 subwoofer (door speakers are already Nakamachis, previous owner/s must've upgraded them). Running them will be a 4-channel AMP for the speakers and a monoblock for the sub.

Upon removing the factory CD player, the wiring has been chopped and changed by the previous owner/s, and a strange Nokia 'Car Kit' and a plastic box with 'surround sound' written on it were hiding behind. The radio harness had been soldered onto, and it was a very, very bad job, a total mess, with only some gummy electrical tape to insulate it.

After some time, I finally got the wiring harness looking original, kicked out the superfluous boxes and wired up the harness for my new head unit, properly with heat shrink and good solder joints where necessary (usually I'd just twist the wires together but given the state of the original CD player harness connector's wiring, it seemed too far gone to bother with making the current setup easily reversible).

I wanted to get everything done today, but unfortunately the Sun was going down so I called it a day.
Tomorrow:
Battery ground lead needs changing with a better one, and circuit breaker and new power wire need installing and routing through the firewall
RCAs and power wires need to be run to the boot
Subwoofer and amplifiers need to be installed
Everything needs tuning and adjusting

Here an old pic of the sub and the 6x9s in the old 1.4:

I have to say this Darren, a 182 in Black Gold is absolutely gorgeous, and I would commit mass murder to have a set of Turinis on my 182 in SA! So good.

Here's my 182 btw:

  Shit little Yaris...
Naff all on the Yaris - But tomorrow I'm changing the wheel nuts to all black.

In the Shed i30, O/S Tie Rod end change today and took it for a pair of new front ditch finders. "Kustone" tyres. Hilariously Chinese.

During which the hose sprung a tiny leak which drenched my foot. Fixed that and set about washing the M2.

And then the hose pipe sprung another leak.

Time for a new hose, but I only need 2m 🙄.
