X98 Cup Car Oil & suspension set up

  X98 cup car
Hi,
I’ve recently bought an a gen 4 cup race car for track days this year, some endurance races next year, and wanted to check on oil grades for the engine. The parts manual is indicating 10w60 but the maintenance manual says 5w40. Anyone running a cup car for track days / endurance races and know the best option ?

Also if anyone has any suspension set up recommendations, either by circuit or in general would be interested to read them. (Particularly camber)

Thanks

No way am I sharing my suspension set ups 😂 I don't think you'll find many teams or drivers that will share that information with you either if you're planning on racing. I would however be happy to pop along to a track day to offer help and advice without eyes and ears around.

I highly recommend Rowe Oils - I was their one of their UK test pilots during 2023 and have done up to 6 hour endurance races on their fluids without issue. Other teams ran on Millers 10w60 in their x98s - their engines didn't last with one going bang at Oulton in spectacular fashion. Would of snagged the overall championship myself but the fly by wire throttle said goodbye mid race at the final round.

It's not cheap, at £105 for five litres but it's had so much development and data thrown at it. It's used in their team cars (BMW GT3 machines)

Happy to put you in touch with their director who's a lovely chap.

Thanks for the reply back. I’ve gone for the millers for now, engine and gearbox. It’s only a track day and I will be getting used to the car so think it will be ok. I’ll have a look at Rowe oils for next time👍
I did wonder if anyone would share set up info, I’ll wait until I bump into you or some other clio owners at the circuit ! I’ve gone for similar to the manual with a few changes, I’ll see how it handles and change from there. 🤞

No, near Oulton Warby 🙂

My favourite circuit. 1st, 2nd and driver of the day on my last outing there.

Sorry to sound harsh on the not being willing to share setups front, just not the done thing as we all have our own little adjustments that we like to make from circuit to circuit. The manual is great as a guide but you'll find the more you drive the car, the more you'll be chasing lap times and pushing on. A little inside knowledge will help chip away at them quicker.

Genuine offer here though, happy to pop up to Oulton and help you set the car up as some of my sponsors are based up that way. I need a catch up with them so can kill two birds with one stone.
