The 90's best car decade!

This was the pinnacle era of motorsport for me. Absolutely epic.
I'm sure I went to the watch a BTCC night race at Silverstone back then. Never did go to the F1 because we were poor, but did do loads of other stuff.

Car crime was also a bit mental back then too.

the 90's tailed off towards the end for me, when in early 97 my girlfriend told me she was pregnant.

Went from single pringle, to partner, house and kid very quickly...

I passed in 92, the 90's were epic for more than use the cars.

mine was a late 80's car but I have a 5GT Turbo at the age of 21

Rallying, touring cars etc etc where all great to go watch.
I passed in 92 too and a year later my mum siad I couldn't have a GT Turbo. My dad came with me when I bought it 😆. The turbo tin cans on the era were amazing, I wish modern hot hatches had some turbo lag to play with.
I guess I was especially lucky to be able to buy my dream car when I was young.

Passed in 91, had a couple of normal fiestas then ended up going down the bike route as it was a cheap route to speed, always feel i missed out a bit, defo think the 90s was one of the best era's for interesting cars.

i will sound like an old t**t now, but the roads were so much different in the 90's you could enjoy driving, you could take the piss a bit when conditions allowed, a lot more enjoyable than now.

I remember driving along an A road, doing about 70mph. My mate next to me so close we were passing cigarettes and lighters to eachother. 😂
Used to go out for a drive at about 9.30pm most nights as the roads were absolutely dead.

Sadly I was poor and had s**t cars. Would have been amazing if I had something that was good to drive, too. 😂

  Did have a R27
I passed my test in 03 but remember all my brothers mates having cars like Mk1 xr2s and RS turbos and things like that. My brother even had two Chevettes lol

Before I was into cars, I remember rocking up to my uncle's house and two of my older cousins had matching XR3i's... one red and one white, I thought they were cool.

Then my first burst of real acceleration was when my first girlfriend's big brother gave me a lift home in his R5 GT Turbo. That started a real love affair with them and to be honest they're still my favourites to this day.

My little cul-de-sac had 2 nova sri's, a gsi that was swapped for a fiesta RS turbo, an escort XR3i, cavalier GSi, mk1 escort estate, my R5 then Delta and the bobby who lived opposite me rebuilt a 2002 turbo. What a time to be alive!

I passed in 02 but my family were car traders in the 90s . My uncle had 1 of everything as that was his goal .

Stick out cars for me were brand new 22B, NSX, 911s, MR2 turbos , Evos 3 to 6,

Were I had my fun was the part exs . I'd have Novas for £50 . Tart them up and sell on . 205s clios coras .
My number 1 sellers were always cavaliers and vectras . Cavs always sold for £700 easy money! Vectras were good sellers at £1500 . Ls models etc

Also like dan said going out on a Sunday night with mates . Few handbrakes on a car park . Park up . Bang the tunes . Kick a ball about . Watch some dickheads race .

I find my self putting my old CD collection on in my car now and pretend I'm off out for the night with old mates 😌 them were the days !

Also for anyone who may remember these too

Went up there a few times to see Tony with my mate in his saffy cos used to run about 330 and that was pretty epic back in the day.

He sold it to a lad who had wanted to buy it from him for years kept offering more and more money so eventually he sold it him.

He only owned it 3 days and wrote it off! 😞 330 rwd and lack of driving skills is not great combination, my mate wanted to kill him for smashing it up after all the time and money he put into it🤣

Used to take my fiesta RS turbo to Castle performance engineering all the years I owned it. Not far from Turbosystems.

I passed in 93, but for me, 82 to 95 cars was the peak time.

Passed in 1987 - I7 and out in Sierra Cosworth’s / 911’s and most other things you can remember back then -

Crazy times the late 80’s to early 90’s - however the one thing that sticks in my head was you couldn’t half get around the country in quick time and fuel was cheap 🤣🤣🤣

You didn’t need to be a millionaire in 1987 to own one as they cost around 14k - but we did have a large fleet of cars due to being in the Motor-trade to experience -

Not sure if anyone else owned one back in the day?

I did bought it in 1995 from the RS technician at TC Harrison Ford in Derby, sold it in 2002 (regreted it ever since) would be a dream to find it again and do what this lad has.

Mine was mercury grey but the silver was super rare to see even in the 90s (only ever made 52 in silver) the last off the line before they stopped making them.
Remember seeing this actual car back then at an RS Show.

Amazing story on the 2 cars😍

The first hot hatch I ever drove was a Fiesta RS Turbo. It had been chipped and had a couple of other bits and felt like a rocket at the time, as well as sounding really good. They get a bit of stick for not handling well, but I think they're still super desirable. A proper little tearaway of a car.

My brother had a GTE 16v Astra and was pretty much the fasted car in our small town then a chap I went to school got a Red Fiesta RST after a string of XR2's.

It was mint.

He had chipped aswell I think you could get 165bhp Stage 1 & 195bhp Stage 2. The latter probably gave better bhp/tonne than a std cossie if you could control the torque steer.

Had this weird disc behind the 3 spoke wheel that made them look like had big brakes even as std.

Mine was genuine dyno'd (several times different rollers) always made over 195 constistanly but that needed a lot of work.

Mine had, 195 chip, 701 injectors, hybrid t2 turbo, pace intercooler and rad, 285t2 piper cam modified airbox samco hoses, upgraded breather.
Koni suspension. Scorpion 3" and Bailey piston dump valve(essential back the in 🤣) would hold 19psi.

Was a proper missile back in the day! everyone knew the car it was so quick weighed about 950kg I reckon.

Chap I bought it of swopped it for cossie he said it was s**t slow compared to the fiesta.

He ended up going over 330bhp in it to make it feel quick.

I lost count of how many Escort RS turbos etc I used to make look stupid they would say they were running a supposed "200-250🙄" plus power with just a stage 1 chip or bleed valve they were actually about 160 if they were lucky🤣

Love it. I think the one I drove was around 160bhp, but still felt spritely. I knew a few people that jumped from modified RS Turbos to Cossies and were disappointed until they started modifying them.

I got a ride in Christian Major's S2 RS Turbo once, during the era when they were going for silly speeds. 160+mph in a MK4 Escort was an eye-opening experience, that's for sure.

I remember some three door Cossies being £7k in the 90's!
a friends mum had one as her daily runabout (she was a proper milf). This would have been in the late 80's.

She got it as part of a divorce settlement. They had money but weren't mega rich, she just saw it as a bit of a sporty car.

And yes in the end it got stolen and was never seen again.

Years ago I came close to buying K51 NTR which was one of the silver ones. I'd had seen a small picture of it in a Ford mag at a rolling road day and a Ford worker owned it and it was standard. A while later I saw it for sale and he'd sold to a dude a year or so younger than me. I'd always say to the people, let me see the car cold.. got there and he'd gone out in it as the MOT had expired. It was nice but had a massive rust bubble by the windscreen rubber. I walked away.

I have only ever seen K reg FRST's in silver (some were on a J reg too) and the odd few in red.

I was 21 at the time and I'd dreamt my whole life of getting a nice un-modded 90 Spec ERST, or a decent FRST. Even with some of them only being ten years and old me having a decent budget, most were shagged and rusty. I shelved that idea an got a Phase 2 1.8 Clio 16v.

I do vow to have one at some point (either an ERST or a FRST) and while I like the OE look, I don't have problem with nice mods. A white FRST on Escort Cossie wheels (which are far too wide and make them tramline like s**t) is the look I lust for on one.

That's cool, but sad that it got nicked! :(

I remember when I was about seven or eight, my dad took me to work one day to see his bosses three door, and his three door race car, which he used to race against Mike Smith the DJ. My dad worked for Brown & Geeson who sold Momo steering wheels and stuff (they are still going now, still involved in motorsport stuff and racing RS500's) His boss was Shaun Brown :)
