Evening chaps,

I have a ring trip in the 182 at the end of the June. I did my first ring trip last year in a different car & it’ll be my first long distance trip in the clio - what sort of spares should I be looking to take (other than a spare of everything😂) I’ll be taking the usual oils, spare pads and taking a spare set of wheels. Is there anything common to go and hard to come by (i.e can’t get them within the next day near the ring) that’s worth taking?

Any advice greatly appreciated, as always!

  Defender 110
Spark plugs and leads.
Coolant hose repair tape (more so for the journey)
Alternator belt
Cam sensor.

Shoukd have you covered for basic road side mechanics.

Take a torque wrench to keep check of wheel nuts.
Spare set of brake pads.
A usb plus and spare phone lead for your phone.
A bag of zip ties.
The cars documents.

Make sure you take your V5C, they require it in Europe if you get pulled

Injectors
HT leads
Coil pack
A few wagos and some snips (Renault wiring)

Take some of your power steering fluid out before going on track too. If you get it hot and it comes out of the reservoir and touches the track you're in for a massive reaming out. Zero lube

If your car is already in good shape you should be spot on, just apply mechanical sympathy

Nice one, cheers.

Have you got the standard power steering on it?

On continual hard use, They like to get the fluid hot and it expands and pisses out of the bottle.
I’ll have to look into it. Is this why the whole EPAS thing is common? I see it mentioned but not looked into it enough to understand what it is.

I won’t be going ten tenths at the ring anyway but done a few trackdays with it now and not noticed any boiling over - might be showing I’m not a particularly quick driver though🤣

If the car is in good condition, I wouldn't worry too much to be honest. If you're going from central-ish UK, it's only a 1,000 mile road trip, so any car in reasonable shape shouldn't struggle with that. Like you say, if you're taking it steady on your laps, you shouldn't do any harm there.

Just take some gaffer tape, cable ties, torque wrench, little tool kit, and spare fluids. You could take some simple spares like a coilpack/leads etc but, if the car is fine normally, the chances of it failing there aren't that high in reality. Brake fluid is definitely worth taking, as that's the first thing to give up on the 'ring in my experience.
