Done well finding the turinis mate - seldom come up!

Steevs are a funny one - not a fan, but in satin black I think they look well

Cheers mate! The turinis were a random fb marketplace find. Lad said he had been struggling to sell them.

Agreed about the steevs, much better in full black than diamond cut.

Updates.

Done a few jobs last weekend ready for mapping on Sat at EfiParts. Oil and filter change, recirc blanking plate and regapped plugs to 0.6mm. No pics as was working fast and nearly cut the end of my finger off on a razor sharp edge on the inside of the aftermarket oil filter it had fitted when i grabbed it. I was expecting oil to be pissing all over but that was controlled, was claret pissing out of my finger instead!

Washed today and rinsed using my new di water vessel. Game changer.

Will update after mapping.

Steady drive down to EfiParts for mapping on Sat. Quick catch up with Chris and the meg was straight on the dyno.

Strapped on and ready to go.

As i said in earlier posts, this had been mapped years ago by another tuner. Ive said previously that it did not really feel that good..seemed to go ok ish but was skeptical of the 325hp printout on stock turbo.

Had a couple of runs to see power on the original map. Suprisingly it made 311/361 on 2nd run but not the 325hp it had on the printout, which was ambitious for stock tuned engine with a couple of bolt ons.

As you can see the torque comes in hard and fast for a stock engine, and a bit too much boost pressure with 24psi in the mid range. It was also pulling a couple of degrees ignition timing in the mid range so not great overall. Other issues noted were no boost requested low down for some reason, then all the boost ramping in with throttle closing to try and reign it back in on spool, and 25psi requested all the way until 6000rpm. With it not being possible to make 25psi on a stock 15t turbo at 6000rpm, this made the ecu wind up the duty/pid right up on the closed loop boost control. Ecu does not like this and can cause drivability issues.

With it making 311hp, it was unlikely that it would make any more peak hp, but for engine longivity the torque needed smoothing/reducing as 350ft/lb is about max for stock 250 conrods. Last thing we wanted was a rod to exit the block on this.

Chris got to work and started from fresh with a new basemap. After a load of runs fine tuning it to get everything as good as expected it finished up at 311hp/348ft/lb.

Before lines in red, black lines for current map.

All the boost in the mid range originally.

One of many dyno pulls.

Its now safer, and much better response low down in the rpm range. It felt very hit and miss on the old map depending what rpm you hit the throttle. It feels the same each time you hit the throttle now and the exhaust note sounds totally different low down. Also launch control activated in 1st gear.

As usual great job from Chris. Drives much better overall.

Also whilst in the area popped by a local place for a quick pic. Im sure a few of you oldskoolers will recognise it from an early 2000's sitcom.

The Archer.

Looks very similar to how he did mine, ramping it in more gradually.

The previous map on mine was suppose to be 330bhp and 350lbft :ROFLMAO:. It’s laughable what people will spout.

same power, less stress (y) winning
All day long mate. No need for 24psi low down on stock turbo, basically flogging the nads off it. Current 21 psi ramping up in mid is much better.

Seen one the other day claiming 330hp on stock turbo :ROFLMAO:

Need to get mine over to Chris for a fresh map.

Supposedly makes 315bhp, so would be interesting to see if it is. Plus the cold start isn't great on it.

Get it booked in mate. Cold start is great on this now, much smoother and no hesitation.

Updates.

A local lad popped round in a 250 recently to buy our old forge intercooler. Had a private plate on his 250 that looked decent, asked if interested in selling and at the time answer was no. A couple of weeks later he messaged asking if we were interested in buying the plate as the car was for sale. A deal was struck and its been transferred over, and new plates fitted today. Welcome R55CUP to the fleet.

Took it out today and feels quick as fcuk on the Efi map. Brake dust is horrendous on the wheels after mapping/few sends recently, front wheels are brown. Needs a good wash! But not enough time today so can wait for another day.

Had the 250 out at the weekend to custom code the rs monitor v1. Massive thanks to Turborenault members for doing the research Cossie1 for sharing the information and Mart for doing the business on the custom coding.

I modified a proscan Elm327 cable with switchable can h/can m so i could access the bic module via can multimedia to code.

I then spent all week scratching my head trying to get Ddt4all to work, using the megane r26 to test.
Im no stranger to getting obscure diagnostic programs to work but after installing 4x different versions, none seemed to work right on mk2 meg being honest, very unstable and not confidence inspiring. I even upgraded my diagnostic laptop to a modern lenovo thinkpad which made little difference to how the software ran.

New diag laptop representing.

I was going to use Renolink and modified an obd splitter lead to plug in my obdsx cable, however when i tried Ddt4all on the mk3 250 on sat, it worked absolutely fine which was suprising allowing the script to be written without issue.

Original screens on rs monitor below, this was a factory fitted option from new on ours. Basically a load of crap data apart from boost, ait and oil temp which were spread over 2 different pages.

Wrote the ecu with the custom coding using Ddt4all.

First page is filled with the useless info. I mean who actually looks at brake
20251018_172935.jpg
pressure?!
20251018_153832.webp

2nd page has the decent data thats worth looking at.
20251018_153824.webp

All the good data on one page, Boost (recalibrated to 2000mbar allow higher readings to suit current setup), Intake temp (now starts from 0-80deg, Oil temp and Water temp both scaled so optimal running temps in the middle of the gauge. Its actually worth using the rs monitor now to keep an eye on things, like an onboard scangauge. All works great, its a nice update.

Give it a quick run out to test all good. Needs a wash, wheels are pitted. Next weekends job.
