Best android tag recommendations please

After losing my keys, I think I better get a tag on the new set. I'm on android, so air tag is a no go.

Had a quick look and can see the Tile and Chipolo, but the reviews on Reddit are all a year old and basically say none of them connect properly, seems to be more of a Google issue than anything.

Has anyone got one and can recommend anything?

Have you properly tried them? How often does it update location.

Updates location any time my phone (or someone with tile) is near. So pretty much always gives last location for whatever I'm trying to find.

I can also press a button on the tile to find my phone.

Been using for 18months, never not worked and battery still going good.

No complaints. Location isn't live like with apple tags, so don't expect them to work like that. Samsung tags might... Not sure.

But as a tool for finding something you've lost it's decent.

See if I've dropped my keys down the park, I'm not going to know where they are unless I'm walking round within Bluetooth reach?

If you dropped them, the phone would know the last time it was connected to them, so you could backtrack, or you can with an AirTag so I assume it’s the same.

The AirTag also just jumps on anyone with an iPhone, so if they’re in a park near the path and someone walks past with an iPhone it’ll ping it’s location for you.

You drop keys, you likely have your phone - your phone knows where the keys last were. You only need bluetooth to join to the fob so it can make a noise.

Anyone who picks the keys up scans the QR code and can report missing keys to your app. Im sure the Apple tags are better, I think the tile gear might do similar tbh but because the user base is so small compared to Apple theres no real competition. But Tile does work very well for me.

Its a good system, but frankly when was the last time you dropped your keys in the park? Your lost keys are somewhere in the house and the only way you are going to find them is to chop that lock off your steering wheel.

Sadly this is the one thing Apple has far superior over android, it isn't even close.

Without a native OS level protocol, the apple airtag will be infinitely more reliable than any Android variant.

Your best bet is, as Rob said, to have it notify you on your device that is no longer connected and then you backtrack, for others to ping it's location, it's not going to be very reliable.

I'll jump in on this, anyone using a tag to track their kids? My 10yr old has just started walking home from school alone, we've got life360 on her phone, but I'd like something else like a tag we can stick in her school bag or coat incase her phone dies etc..

Must resist the urge to @ members for their child tracking expertise....

I use AirTags, I have lost one which was attached to some car keys, weirdly I didn’t lose the keys but the tag went awol 🤷🏻‍♂️. Tried to track the AirTag, located its last position but never managed to retrieve it.

Are the Android ones app dependant? Isn't the benefit of the apple product that the tag can be detected by anyone's iphone?

So if you lose one in the park or something, it's more likely to get picked up.

Weirdly only my Android will notify me if there's an air tag travelling with me. My work iPhone has never altered me to one.
We have a few on the boat each day but the Android notifications are hit and miss.

I'll also be getting something for Android when my lad starts high school next year so I'll keep an eye on this thread.

I've opted for a Chipolo One......... on the basis it was red to match my car :ROFLMAO:

Downloaded the app and I can link it to that. I can make it beep from my phone, or can use it to make my phone ring, but weirdly it's not showing up in the Google Find My hub thing.

Ive been using PebbleBee - https://pebblebee.com/
Worked fine for all over the world and as only need Google Find now days it works almost universally.

Worked in multiple airports and such so cant complain about them.

Got the jetsettle bundle and no failed and hardly need charged.

Other bonus is they do work with apple if needed also.

I get properly involved going down rabbit holes on this finding the best ones that work etc then get analysis paralysis and never order any 😂

Could do with a set for mine and my mrs keys tbh.

Keen to see how they work for yall.

Can I get a pair with a say £50 budget?

I use an AirTag for our son, we're looking to get him a Cellular Apple Watch too, as we don't want him to have a phone. Plenty of AirTag keyloop rings available, he either sticks it on his belt loop, or in a pocket. Granted he doesn't go far, so there's little chance of him running out of range overall, but it's worked for us flawlessly so far.

The cellular watches need to be paired to an active phone account on the same network.

How do you get yours showing on Google Find? Mine will not load to it at all, only the chipolo app. I've even uninstalled that, got locations turned on my mobile etc, but when I click it next tot he phone, no install shows

Do they need to be on the same network? I was aware they needed to be paired to a phone, but you can set them up on a kid's plan.
Yeah pretty sure they do, as they piggyback the data from said network. Doubt it'd work if it was 2 different networks.

Ah b****cks, I've been under the impression I could get a fresh e-SIM for his watch, rather than having the phone on the same network. Back to the drawing board!

As PebbleBee supports google off the bat? You put the pebblebee into pairing, open Google Find, and it then says add as new device, or such then its all fairly easy.

No idea about chipolo, presume the same?

Just spoke to their support team, the ONE doesn't, but the POP does, so having to return that one to swap for the POP so I can use it on Find Hub.

You can register the watch as yours, add him as a "Child" then Setup a SIM for them (same network) get cheap one and then get the esim (so its a double subscription technically) then boom it works.

However you need the two sims essentially to make it work and they get their own number, which doesnt do anything but call what you allow it too. They also dont see the main number, just the email.

How I had it setup for a client who wanted a similar thing.

Says it does on the site the ONE does. - https://chipolo.net/en/products/chipolo-one-point but i dont even see it on the site now, so presume its discontinued and the cheapest one on the site?

Either way least you can swap to that other one and works.

Next time go for the pebblebee ;)

TBF, I'm with Sky mobile currently, and it's just a rolling monthly SIM from memory, so there's no harm in changing and getting an e-SIM for my boy at the same time.

Thanks, looks like I'm being stung for a new Apple Watch for him after all!

You will need to take ownership of the number and essentially waste the number and the subscription. But it works
