After 3ish years in a Fiesta.... Id pick the 200 !
The fiesta has never ever, even once let me down mechanically. Its very quick, drives great, for what it can do it can be very economical if you want it to be. Parts are cheap, the 'big' servicing intervals are cheap, it really is a great all rounder.
But its never given me the excitement my previous Renault platforms have. Also trying to sell one is a nightmare. The market is so saturated with toss cheap examples everyone thinks you will drop 1k off the price to get it sold !

Interior is awful though, plus no manual option. They don’t look special enough to me on the outside either, just looks like a young girly car all round.
If you’re going to go turbo you may as well get a mk3 265 facelift.

Gearbox issues would be a worry for me too.
I agree it doesn’t exactly look special, but the 200 was the same as a normal clip inside. it’s a very capable car. No manual isn’t really that big a deal. The gearbox is much better than the ‘experts’ said.
A very good car which is fun to drive and handles well.

Mine has been a daily for a year and a bit, done about 14k miles in it. Took it on a 3k mile Euro roadtrip in summer.
Mine has been good but some of the bits to look out for on any are:
- Radiator support rusting through
- Map sensor loose (can buy a bracket).
- Drain holes under scuttle panel blocked and holding water causing issues with the wipers and interior leaks/smells.
- Washer fluid/water getting into spark plugs
There is more but it didn’t put me off buying one.

Interior is miles better than a mk3 or a fiesta!
I still rate the mk4 chassis over a mk3 too but as no one bought a mk4 there's not many that can confirm that.

I guess to me better doesn’t mean newer or more features. I’d rather have the dash and controls of my Clio than a modern car with screens. The mk4 to me is more Peugeot (of that era) feeling than Renault. Just the hard plastics are thinner and shiny and the screens of that era aged really quick. I know mk3 lacks tech and features but the look, ease of use and feel is what matters more to me.
I did look at the mk4’s after watching a kid do a vid on one being a ‘mini A45’ on YouTube and thought it could be fun. One came into work and I just honestly hated the interior, one look and touch of that gloss black centre was enough for me. Seats looked poverty too and hated the dials.
But I also am aware I’m a bit weird and would rather have an old Saab interior over a brand new car.
