What would you upgrade?

I think I built this just before Covid.. I think.. it was top of the range at its time, but it got about ten hours of use (mainly coding based) and then spent the next however many years collecting dust.

I’m looking to recommission it. From its current specs, is there anything outdated enough that it’ll struggle with recent games?

Specs:
i7-5820k 6 Core CPU
64GB Corsair DDR4 RAM
ASUS X99-A motherboard
2TB HDD
2x 512GB SSD
GeForce GTX Titan X 12GB DDR5
Corsair RM850X PSU

Cheers

Don’t know too much about intel CPUs but the gpu will absolutely struggle. Mine (3080) is outdated these days and it’s at least a couple of generations ahead of that.

I saw a post on X recently that said something along the lines of ‘enjoy building and upgrading your PCs as it’s the last time you’ll be able to do it’.

Unless there’s a serious correction in component pricing I might still have this PC when BF20 comes out 🤣

Any PC upgrade or buy now is too late. Anyone looking to buy or upgrade should have bought in September/October last year.

£900 for the RAM kit I bought last March for £200. Top GPUs? Up 55%. Cheap SSDs? A thing of the past.

Buying PC hardware right now would be insane.

Keep the RAM and buy a new CPU and motherboard that supports DDR4. I believe Ryzen 5000 series and Intel 14th gen were the last platforms that supported DDR4. They're a couple of gens old now so you should be able to grab some decent deals.

The GPU won't even launch some recent titles (hardware RT requirements) so try and find a deal on an Nvidia 40 series card like a 4070Ti or higher (so you get enough VRAM), or if you want AMD then the 9070XT is a very good option for the money.

The most important upgrade is the GPU in my opinion, your CPU will still run everything but your GPU simply won't work on some modern titles, and doesn't support DLSS either which is practically a necessity at this point

I did a little upgrade last week whilst keeping my ddr4 to avoid spending silly money, and also of the view things might be a bit crazy for the next year or so.

Went with a Ryzen 5800XT and a 5070, nothing earth shattering but a decent uplift on what I had before.

Also refreshed my storage drives as nvme prices are also heading up, the drives I bought are already £100 and £60 more then last week!

The 5070 is also £100 more currently, although that does seem to ping pong up and down.
