3/4/5/R crunching after new clutch - Clio 172

Hey everyone, does anyone know why gears would crunch after installing a new clutch and release bearing? 3rd, 4th and 5th never really crunched before the clutch change, reverse would occasionally. And not sure if it's of note, but there's a really loud screech when I start the car now. I'm hoping this is the alternator belt slipping as the battery is weak right now, but maybe this can give some clues on the gear issue.
  • I can select all the gears fine with the car off.
  • 1st and 2nd can be selected with no crunching.
  • 3rd can be selected but crunches a lot.
  • 4th and 5th feel blocked, if I try to force past there is lots of crunching.
Could it be the clutch cable is old and has stretched and isn't disengaging the clutch fully?
Or perhaps I haven't properly aligned the gear linkage? I didn't undo this at the selector tube, rather I undid the gear linkage from the box at the 13mm bolt.

Any insights would be much appreciated!

Thanks

Reset the linkage would be your first thing to check

Thanks for the tips guys. I investigated a little, undid the gear linkage entirely and tried to manually select the gears at the box. Unfortunately still crunched trying to go into 3rd and 4th. Any other ideas? Sounds like I've messed something up...

Clutch is likely the wrong way round

Flipped around now, just putting everything back in. Anyone know what this hose is for? Next to the rubber boot at the steering rock/column
