Nvm, arch off and I managed to remove it.

I'm starting to get fed up with the 182 now. Seems like every time I drive it, something goes wrong.

Got the service and airbag light on after a trip to shop today. I've already had the passenger seat wiring done so in guessing it's the drivers seat this time. Quick check under the seat and the wiring is taped up. Yay.

Also getting a vehicle speed sensor code (p0500) so need to get that looked at too.

It's a shame because I really love driving it. But it's getting to the point now where I've spent more on it than what I paid for it and certainly more than what it's worth, but I've still got body work and rust that needs sorting too.

High brake light has gone in the spoiler. I've already got the JMRS replacement board I just need to find the time to fix it.
 
New radio fitted. Well is say new, it's off Facebook mkt place.
Cracking unit tho especially for 40 quid.
Id have taken a picture with the phone attached, but I needed the phone to take the pic.

Swore at it as I had a quick flashing red immobiliser light.

Took two attempts taking the negative battery terminal off & on before it decided to behave as though nothing had happened!!
 
Took it out to C&M Petersfield after fitting a carbon hood & Nardi Personal steering wheel and re-fitting cruise control that'd inexplicably been taken off at some point.

Only sparked myself twice while testing the horn, otherwise smooth sailing!

I would upload some pics but it seems the forum won't let me.

Now that the rollcage is fully welded in, I've started to put everything back together. Dash bar trimmed and some brackets removed. Started running the pipework for the fire extinguisher too, engine bay nozzles are in the final positions and fixed in, interior nozzle are roughly placed but I need to make some brackets for mounting them. I was going to run the pull cable for it and then fit the battery cutoff but it started raining. Also need to mount the bottle in a position that'll allow for a passenger seat.

Almost smashed the windscreen too but not in the way you'd imagine with the dashbar in and out. I was trying to removed the interior mirror and it wouldn't slide off the mounting tab so I decided to try to twist the mirror off the mount and the whole thing came off, bringing a thin layer of glass with it! Wtf 😂
 
Cleaned 24 years of grime off of this - drain plug below the scuttle panel.

Dash back in, absolutely butchered it as the "full fat" dash in the MK3 has a soft touch covering and a lot more bracing underneath so it doesn't flex at all. Also pulled the old AC rad thingy out of the heater matrix so halved the weight of it. So I think I'll see if I can pick up a base model or cup dash at some point. I was going to start it up today and see what I forgot to plug in but the battery has dropped several cells and only reads 6v now. Couple pics from yesterday's fire extinguisher line install too. Nice and subtle.

One item ticked off last night that wasn't on the list and it's an important one.

First start. Wasn't without issues though! First time connecting the battery and there were relays clicking, headlights were on and the dash just kept saying the auto lights were activated and then deactivated. Start button did nothing except make the clicking relays even more angry sounding. There was a squealing from behind the dash and the headlights refused to turn off. So battery disconnected, checked connections under the dash, remembered the rear harness was still unplugged so connected that up again. Same thing, only the fuel pump was doing mad stuff too. Was the ECU fried? Did I forget to disconnect the battery when the cage was being welded? Found the issue...

When taking off lots of brackets from the dash bar, remember to make a new earth point for the ECU😅 1x M6 bolt and a nut connecting a single ring terminal back to the dash bar... Fired up, well, second attempt anyway. The battery I found was from my old 172 and wasn't man enough to crank the 197. Jump pack connected and it fired right up!
 
Watched the lacquer on the driver side mirror cap (on the 172) bubble up and blister in this stupid heat!! Luckily the cap is broken anyway and I have a couple of full mirrors inc caps as spares.
 
Had the OSF ABS sensor replaced at Nightingales. Finally got rid of the Christmas tree lights on the dash now. :)
I may have to use them to try and solve my strange noise from under the car. I gave them my old bumper a few weeks ago and it looks like a decent place. I always use Birchdown for major stuff but these guys are really close to me.
 
First chance in a long time to do some bits and pieces on my car. It was nothing major, mostly just lubricating and cleaning the inside. I’ve managed to free off the drivers seat, which wouldn’t slide forward easily, by using a little WD-40 on the runners. I tried some s**t liquid glass product from China, just to try and get a better match between the bonnet and the recently painted bumper, but to no avail. I knew it wouldn’t work but I just wanted to give it a try. More fool me.

I bought a clay mitt and went over the bonnet with it and it’s really surprising how much contamination you can feel through the mitt compared with just running your hand over it. I’m not done a full polish on the car but just made sure it looks clean enough. I’m doing a lot of motorway miles now so the car gets very dirty very quickly from insects and roll dirt. I’m also in the middle of repairing the door trim on the drivers door as it doesn’t hold together properly. I’ve found a broken piece and I’ve bonded it, so I’m just waiting for everything to harden and then I’ll try and refit it.

I got under the car and noticed that one of the heat shields towards the back seems a little loose and I think that sometimes this causes a little resonance through the exhaust. It’s nothing major but now I know about it it has to be done.

The car is giving me about 45 MPG to and from work at the moment which is pretty good. The lack of aircon has been really noticeable over the last few days and as a daily driver it’s just something you have to pull up with if you have this kind of car. I do miss my old 182 Cup on days like these.

I did speak to the one of them a few weeks ago and mentioned this strange noise and they said something that was quite close to something underneath can sometimes cause this. if it’s up on a ramp then I’m sure that with their experience they’ll instantly be able to diagnose what the problem is. I’ve tried myself by lying underneath the car but it’s almost impossible to move things around and try and replicate what’s causing it. I have changed all the parts that can wear underneath and as I posted before I think it can only be the gearchange linkage arm or it’s something that I just cannot see lying on my back.
