The last Clio I buy? 172 cup

Here we are again, another Clio purchased, my 14th if I remember correctly, and my 5th 172 cup.

A little back story, I commented in the 172 cup thread about possibly getting another as out of all the Clio sports I’ve had, a standard 172 cup imo is the best there is.
A day or so later I got a message from @clio_cup saying he knew of this car and put me in touch.
I gave the owner a message, and viewed it last week.
From what I can tell it’s been off the road for 10 years, and he bought it 18 months or so ago to turbocharge but now life had changed.
When I viewed I was pleasantly surprised how original it is, original radio, splitter, and still has unbroken front arch liners!
It does not appear to have rust in the normal places either, for a car that’s been off the road for 10 years it presents well on top.

Underneath is different, it needs the rear beam etc sorting, and the engine obviously has not run for a while. But im hoping it’s a great base for an OEM recommission before they’re all gone!

It gets delivered tomorrow, so once I can get it on my ramp and have a proper look I’ll update again.

Cheers

She arrived this afternoon to the unit, flat tyres, still crusty but looks good in pictures!

Always good when the recovery driver turns up and says ‘why have you bought this piece of s**t for’ cheers then 😂
I’ll get it on axle stands tomorrow, get the sill covers off and give it a good poke, if nothing structural rust wise is found then the project will be on!

Had a productive day looking round the cup.

First of all, I through a battery on it, cranked it over with the coil unplugged to get some oil pressure, plugged that back in and it fired straight up! So that’s a little win, I will do a compression on it before I pull it out but apart from servicing/belts I don’t intend to touch the engine at all.
Removed the sill covers and happy to report not even a hint of rot.
The shell underneath is largely okay, it does have crusty areas but having poked it all day nothing worse than that.
Both front springs are snapped.
Hubs arms shocks look like they’ve been in the bottom of the sea.
It had no coolant in it at all, filled it up and it soon became apparent the rad has a hole in it.
It’s had some replacement brake lines in its life which I’d like to replace with OEM ones.
Looking through the history it had a new exhaust and brake flexis in 2017, they still look new but it wasn’t long after it came off the road.

Plans will be to strip it, get stuff sand blasted/powdercoated, sort the crust, replace what’s needed and build it back up.

Cheers
