yeah im always fighting my way through cars like that theyve really become a blight in the last five years and theres at least one on every street of every housing estate in the country, not like rare 4x4s that are only owned by monied people and not a large and growing number of the population...

Ahh right then. Perhaps the anti 4 x 4 brigade need to be more specific then. Thats not how this debate started though. They were all accused of being gas guzzlers and dangerous to other road users. This is not so as I have shown. Arguement does not wash does it ? Say shall we say anything...

No spin, they are all 4 x 4 s and therefore tarnished by the media and sheep like you. I agree they are the lighter versions though. I drive my 4x4 occasionally and I receive harassment from road users that beggars belief. Most of the time they are right behind me, glued to my arse and will...

Loony the arguement that 4x4s are heavier does not stack up : Renault Espace - 1845 kg BMW 7 Series - 1945 kg BMW 5 Series esate - 1783 kg Renault Vel Satis - 1735 kg Ford Galaxy - 1696 kg Now look at the weight of these supposedly heavier 4 x 4s Nissan X Trail - 1546 kg...

The UKs road network is f**ked enough already without accelerating it further needlessly. So we are on to the state of the roads now as an arguement against 4 x 4s and restricting their numbers as if they should be rationed ! That is a pitiful excuse. A 4 x 4 does no more damage to a...

Why cant people have freedom of choice, like people have already stated each to their own, there are so many vans, trucks, etc that weigh more than 4x4,s and probably have much worse stopping distances. There are mpvs that take up more road and plenty of cars that have worse fuel economy but no...

if i wanted to go offroad or lived in an area that was very rural and requred a 4x4 i would buy one, if i lived in a town and needed to transport a family in safety and didnt need to go offroad i would buy a mpv/estate with a good NCAP rating. Its like using a sledge hammer for a job than only...

Status symbols most of the 4wds and a bloody danger, I hate not being able to see the road ahead cause your views obstructed by a bloody disco. Suggestion : Back off and dont drive so close. Try same with bus, transit van etc

Freelander is a poor choice of 4 x 4 for safety as is say the Metro ( 1star )as a city car compared to the clio. X5 has 5 stars, ML has 4 stars but I suspect the larger jeeps in US do not fare well. I did some research before buying my ML and found that since it had been released only 7 people...

People use the "theyre safer for my kids" arguement. Well its a case of safety through superoir firepower route eh? so you and your kids are safe but when you misjudge a corner your old micra would have got round and hit a corsa with 2+ tonnes of metal its not very safe for the occupants of that...

I feel some height envy coming on ! Most 4 x 4s are actually have a smaller footprint than some saloon cars, it is the height that makes them look larger. Some are also more economical than a 182, and the V6 so gas guzzling arguement does not work. Lets not also forget the large MPV,s...

    Comparison, Cup vs. Cupra R

Good review. Changed my 182 after 4 months, same experience with motorway driving. Just not up to sustained long journeys. Have a Boxster now. Smoother, quiter and more solid at speed. More grown up ! Looking forward to the sunshine !

    Goodbye 182

Are you old and wrinkly too like Jill? Yes, going blind, bald and getting fat as well. Typical Porsche driver ?

    Goodbye 182

Standard 2.5, low miles , T plate. Got 11k for the Clio. Cannot compare them really, 2 different types of car. Will miss the clio, so quick and so much fun. Mid life crisis, yep !

    Clio 172 To Lotus Elise

Just changed my 182 at the weekend to a Boxster, 5 years old, less practical but quality and pedigree is there. Still fun like the Elise as well

    Goodbye 182

Boxster Maybe I will live a little longer now, could not resist temptation to drive the 182 near its limit all the time, too weak you see. Later. PK

    Hello

    FAO 182 owners

Bought my 182 in July, trading it in for a Boxster at the weekend. Great car and lots of fun but tiresome on a long journey. Was offered 11k as a trade in so am happy with that as well.

    182 has gone, replaced by........

What did you get as trade in.? I am in a similar position, having done 7500 miles in last 3 months in my 182.

Attempted Burgulary - after my car AGAIN!

Similar thing happened to me in May this year. They broke in through the front door at 4.30 am, wife was breast feeding upstairs at the time, took both my ML and Golf Gti. Also took our wallets, purses etc that were near the door. Heard the cars start and looked out the window to see them...

    Any Regrets Buying 182

Love mine. 6600 miles in 3 months. 40+mpg on long runs and destroys everthing else on the road. Love hitting 5k in second coming off roundabouts onto DC or motorway. Handling is addictive. Looks mean. What else could you buy for the money that gives this much performance and fun ?

    My new 182

Absolutely, when warm rag it to max for first 20 miles, decelerate in gears. Change oil at 3000. Thats what I did. My baby flies now, 41 mpg on runs, 6600 miles now in 3 months, optimax only. Too many scalps to mention, nothing can keep pace

1000 miles a week, mixed driving styles and roads I see 37 mpg. Excellent ! Could only beat that with a diesel

    New clio in auto express

will look better when it is lowered on low 16inch low profiles and a few spoilers thrown in I am sure. I am sure we will all look long and hard at the Clio Sport version when it is available. New Golf Gti looks good though

    Are 172s/182s ’flashy’ cars

I thik subtle is a good way to describe a car like the 182. A velvet glove with an iron fist would be another. On the road I get the feeling that most drivers do not know what the 182 is. To them it looks like a normal Clio with a few extras. Hence the way they seem to drive just off my arse...

4000 miles. Had my 182 2 months now. Clocking up some serious miles every week now. I am following the alternative running in process.
