Re: ***How much is my car worth?***
Does anyone have an opinion on what the current value and the value if we managed to get an MOT/Tax? It would be interesting to see if the outlay is worth it.
My car feels quite vague to drive (well not as responsive as it used to me). The steering wheel wobbles at lowers speeds and to a lesser degree at higher speeds. I also get a slight knock when turning on lock left or right. Any ideas?
I have just had similar problems and changed the cat, both lambdas, coilpack and injectors. All appears to be fine so far. I believe the injectors were ultimately at fault.
It appears all is well with the car following a new set of injectors/fuel rail and coil pack thrown in for good measure. Leads and sparks are still in good condition. No errors on the diagnostic!!! I even got a free RS stamped lower inlet manifold thrown in as it was going in the bin. Fingers...
Oh i forgot to say that the plugs were last changed by a trader seller (probably not the required brand!) 4 years ago (33K miles). Are they due in any event?
Hi there,
I have recently had a problem with my lambdas/cat which brought up the usual emissions light. Gradually the car has developed a misfire. I was hoping changing the lambdas/cat would fix the problem but in the usual manner the 172 has other ideas.
I have a misfire on cylinder 2 or...
Will do. From my research on here it would look like lambdas or the coil pack. Ill get my garage to hook the car up to the diagnostic first to check the codes
My emissions light came on a while back (which i ignored as it only comes on when running lean on long journeys). It has now started flashing in traffic and the car feels rougher on idle. There is also a slight burning smell. I have the car booked in tomorrow to fix (and hooking up to a...
turns out the problem is not fixed. the car appears to make a spinning grinding noise when under load in high revs or when accelerating over bumps. driveshaft perhaps?
Its not that I cant afford to run and maintain (the above shows I maintain my car to the highest of standards irregardless of cost) its more a question of when do you call it a day?
There is a huge difference between "something reliable and cheap to run" and costing a fortune mind you! The money I am currently spending on maintaining my car would easily cover the finance payments for a new 200!
Thanks for the reply Steve. The car had £76K on it when I bought it (probably too much in the first place). I feel that 1*2s are ideal for lower mileage/commutes and weekend blasts but as a daily drive for 10K+ miles you must be prepared to incur the maintenance costs as I have outlined above...
In my year of ownership I have had to replace the following parts on my 02 reg 172 (85K):-
1) Water Pump x 2 (first time under warranty)
2) Alternator
3) Dogbone mount
4) Driveshaft and cv gaitors
5) Bonnet catch
6) Power steering pump and aux belt
7) 2 x diagnostic to clear lambda...
I forgot to say that I had the water pump and aux belt recently changed so i guess that could be slipping? It is only in high revs and mainly in second (as a similar rev in third is approaching silly speeds)
Any thoughts people?
At the weekend i decided to try the unplugged airbox intake to see what the fuss was about. On the way to work today (whilst the noise was great) i appeared to develop a misfire and then a scraping noise which I can only describe as plastic on tarmac/shredding. I quickly put the air intake back...
What would people say is a decent price for 4 x silver 182 alloys in good condition? 2 have new p zeros and other 2 will need tyres replacing in next few months.
