Thanks for that. It is in fact just a home made kit i found using a Toyota Avensis pulley (larger than existing, to accommodate for the lack of aircon pump pulley) with alternator in same location. Has anyone on here tried this and know if i need the aircon pump bracket? I'm pretty sure the...
I should clarify that I have actually remove the aircon pump, but presume i still need the aircon pump bracket to hold/locate into position the alternator… is that right? I have the bits to make an aircon delete as suggested in another thread on here
Hi all,
Almost finished putting the engine back together on my 172 after a bit of a rebuild, and missing a certain item;
Desperately need an air com pump bracket if anyone has one spare please?
I've rung round loads of breakers and no one seems to have any or will part with one, without the...
caught it just in time. Pretty certain the bores aren't warped but that's what he'll be checking for. Rods are all good, it was litterally one bearing cap which looked to have scorch marks on it. I've had a few mechanics look at the bits before sending it to the reconditioner so hopefully all is ok
yes bottom end big bearings went.
I beg to differ... i can understand your point if yours is a daily commute, but mine will be specifically track. Any way of lightening the car, or components is going to shave time off the laps. I'm no pro, but I want to track race properly.
The money is...
Yes but any further lightening will require balancing, such as fly
"From what I have read on here - you would be lucky to see a 8-10 peak bhp increase for those modifications. As chip says to get 200+ you need throttle bodies and some cams, or a turbo/supercharger. None of these are cheap...
Wow, really? I mean i can appreciate that power is lost over wear of the engine, but i was hoping the re-conditioning of it would bring itclose to the 172bhp that it should be.
As a general rule of thumb I would have thought;
a decent exhaust system would add at least 5bhp
the different bits...
Ha... i'm not relying on the rebuild to add the power, i'm hoping it will make it last longer. Power will be coming from exhausts system, 182 manifold and inlets, remap, anything else you can suggest?
Thanks, existing pistons to be used. I've basically taken the lump to the chap and asked for it to be cleaned up and made proper again to standard spec. The car will be used for track only, so along the build and re-conditioning of it he will be looking to balance certain areas of the engine...
The figures he gave were from memory... i'm not going to go back with that information as a definitive answer. F**k me you guys are so evasive of actually helping out... do i have to pay to become a member in order to receive the nice treatment? You haven't really sold me the benefit of being a...
He's one of the very few (good) engine reconditioners left in South Wales. I've used him several times for other engine rebuilds, but he's a grumpy old git that doesn't know how to use the internet and expects all info to be produced to him.
I just need to know tolerances, allowances, spacing...
Hi All,
I've sent off for my engine rebuild but the chap doing it can't seem to find anything online which specifies dimensions/clearances/spacing for things such as crank and valves.
Anyone know of a manual of some sort I can download or find?
Many Thanks
Perhaps a silly question, but does the fact that I have a 172, limit me from this? Or will I perhaps be able to replace with what makes a 182? Such as manifold and inlet?
On further investigation, if I did decide to try out for MSVT, I'd only get away with 175 bhp per tonne. I therefore won't...
