Sounds like the further you go with the spec the more benefits you get with the 197 head.
Interesting PMS modify the 172 combustion chamber for there custom pistons. I guess the better 197 combustion chamber will allow for a better designed high comp piston.
That is mighty impressive. I much prefer I well thought out lower budget build then just ordering a load of aftermarket parts.
I was planning a spec along these lines, which then got me thinking about the 197 head. Only problem is I would lose the lower cost option of raising compression with...
That's good feedback thanks.
I have some 197 pistons that I planned to fit to a 172 anyway. Sticking with the 172 head I could well make a similar gain due to the higher compression.
I've seen it mentioned on here the 197 head is a better design then a 172/182 head.
So question to the people who have compared them what is better about the 197 head, ignoring the manifolds.
I'm thinking along the lines of a 172 running itbs (jenveys not direct to head) it would be relatively...
Thanks @Chambers_RS, I've bought the plates to weld on, I'll have to do a mockup and see how it fits up. Otherwise it looks like I'll have to add some new front struts to the list. Hope it's worth it.
Oh also. I believe this setup widens the track 12mm (I'm not sure if total or each side) I see you noticed it was wider.
Are you using the same driveshaft? And if so have you experienced any problems with them and the increased width?
Thanks
I currently have GAZ gold coilovers on the front, that section of the body looks a lot narrower than the BC's. On one of your pictures (maybe the angle) the Laguna hubs looked alot wider in this area.
Thanks @ZachB after the info this thread I've found a pair from an early 2.2D Laguna. The pictures look like a match so fingers crossed.
From a bit of research it seems the wheel bearing changed around 1999, and the early hubs were 4 stud and then changed to 5 stud.
Great project, I'm not sure how I've missed this one.
I understand the Laguna hubs are 65mm spacing, are they also wider where they bolt to the struts?
I've ordered all the parts today to go down the same route and now planning out the work in my head. I want to get as much castor as possible...
Any thoughts on welding the pin to the upright, eliminate the chance of ovaling the hole?
I've heard of a few fatigue cracking around that area, although nowhere near the quality of the ones mentioned in this thread
Yes you can buy them. Although some poeple have the opinion they become a trap for dirt as there not it fully sealed. I've had no first hand experience.
Great question, I'm also looking at buying a kit.
Has anyone got any opinions on the PMS kit? Looks like a replica of the cup racer kits
Possibly a bit more work fitting - sourcing Laguna uprights and swapping flanges. Although I like the fact the uprights already have an increased length...
That does look a long way out. I don't think i have any pictures of mine, but it was definitely in alot further.
Is the bush and internals of that all seated correctly.
Thinking about it, i played around with mine on the bench adjusting it and using a spanner/adjustable on the column input shaft to get a feel for it before fitting.
I've also read about the vague center, self centering with epas. I wondered if the quick rack helps eliminate this because it has a higher ratio.
I only went to epas after the quick rack, I now wish I had done it sooner. Video uploading.
That's interesting, I would think it should be always easier than a hpas rack as there's no fluid or piston.
When I initially built mine I wasn't happy with the preload so reduced it. It's been great since
Yeah its constant. When I first switch the car on the steering is heavy for a split second, almost like the epas takes a second to wake up. Apart from that it's constant,
You can change the preload on a bush that's applied to the rack (I'm not sure what it's called) could that be wound to far...
This Thread was useful, but no conc lusion or pictures with the compbrake setup - https://www.cliosport.net/threads/4-pots-under-15s.824199/#post-11712861
