If you're looking to spend around a grand on suspension, I'd really consider reaching that little bit further and getting the ASTs. They will be the best you can buy.
My current AST setup is 460lbs front and 475lbs rear. That is pretty stiff for the road but great on track!
15 inch wheels...
That's good going to be fair. Do you have any experience or views on the Helix, specifically the organic setup mate?
Haha you're telling me mate. Thankfully the car was on a trailer so the journey home was as normal.
Shshhhhhhhhh I can't hear you
That post is 3 years old by the way :cool:
I spoke to Tony yesterday. He's had two Valeo clutches fail on him. One was disastrous when it let the fly wheel escape for freedom and it cut everything in half on its way out lol.
He's now got a Helix paddle clutch.
Thinking about it, I'm sure my...
So just very quickly I can count a few failures. Some very nasty.
Mine - twice - Valeo
@chris-foci - once? - Valeo
@CallyTeee - twice - Valeo (destroyed box)
Tony Hunter - At least once? - Valeo (destroyed everything in the area)
@masekwm Quaife'd box - once - Valeo (destroyed absolutely...
The more I look into it the more common it seems. I've come across some catastrophic failures from fellow RS owners and now almost consider myself lucky...
That's good to know thanks mate. I will take a look at the LUK ones. But I think I'm set on getting a Helix now though.
f**k that's bad. Looks like I got lucky then and caught it with just one rivet failure.
How comes you went for a LUK clutch now, and not something considerably stronger!??
So you had a Valeo, it failed and ruined your box?
Then you fitted a new clutch, new box and it ruined it again!???
Now you've got a LUK in there working ok as of yet?
What failed on your clutches please mate?
Just take a couple of jerry cans with you on trackdays. Job done then and never have to worry about it again.
If my car was 'mapped' to 98 then I personally wouldn't use anything but 98+. I'm sure it might be fine but I wouldn't want to risk it.
My car is mapped on 99 and I only ever put...
It's a standard Valeo one mate. It's done minimal miles, so you can almost still see the Valeo stamp on the friction plate.
Not as new as my previous clutch when that failed though:
I set mine around 23psi cold. Do the sighting laps. Then a steady first session. That seems to get them to about 30 when hot on my setup. I then just monitor them throughout the rest of the day and keep them at 30. Often don't even need to touch them unless the weather changes a lot.
If...
Snetterton Track day 14th April 2017
What could be better than a dry track day on a bank holiday Friday!
Well it didn't go to plan. The clutch broke at about 10:30am!! Which meant another wasted track day, as well as lots of time and money! It looks like it's a random failure for the second...
Loads of people will know how to do it.
iirc there's a range of angle it can be in to be acceptable. Turn the sensor around until one of two colours shows in the indication panel.
I thought mine was yellow for ok and red for not. But it may have been blue and red.
If you're buying one, it would make sense to relocate it at the same time mate. I put mine behind the passenger seat. Then put a cut off switch in the Live wire too.
I've got a Varley Red top 25. Works a treat. Car doesn't get much use. But then when I know it'll be weeks before I start it...
Those harness bars also look a little low for my linking. I don't think they would suit my harness position at all. My current SD rear cage has the harness bar much higher.
I fitted my new flat plastic front windows this weekend. I've not been out for a drive yet so I don't know for sure if they will now be rattle free, but I'm very happy with the improved OEM look.
Oh I'd definitely stay overnight the night before. Wouldn't even consider it without doing that to be honest.
But then there's the added issue if finding somewhere which is not too expensive and suitable for a pickup with trailer.
I will definitely do it some point. Would just be very...
Oulton is easily 30 minutes extra on the long enough journey. Let alone if there's traffic around Bham ring roads etc
I mean they're both VERY far lol!!
