And she’s awake. Reinsured yesterday and storage dust washed off. Rear arches are going to need some TLC so that’ll be a project at the end of the year. Debating removing back seats as they’ve been used once in almost 3 years. Nothing else massive planned immediately - but I’m going to put some...
Been a while!
Not much to report with the 172 - I’ve SORN’d her, partly as I tend not use her much while there’s salt on the roads and more so I’ve changed jobs and haven’t worked full time for a few weeks so watching pennies.
I’ve returned to my roots in the classic and specialist vehicle...
Lots of bits done on both cars!
Replaced the B pillar trims on the 200 with some CF vinyl - not concours but a welcome improvement.
Cleaned scuttle area on the 200 and cleaned drain holes (can’t do this on the 172 as the NS wiper arm won’t budge)
New filter on the 172 with a bracket to hold the...
Wow. Fair play for biting the bullet! My motto is “use it or sell it” and likewise if the love’s gone then it’s time to move on. Minis seem to have endless upgrading and tinkering options so I’m sure it’ll keep you busy! Look forward to seeing it progress ?
What Graham said - it was miles out and the cat was knackered too. Belts were done at a main dealer just before I bought the car. Now timed up properly and decat fitted and voila ?
Another good day.
Return trip to Surrey Rolling Road where she made 143 last time. Clearly the missing horses have been found.
Next is to aim for 180 so RS lower inlet, 182 manifold and delete A/C.
I figured Black easier to keep clean on a daily lol.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m liking the 200 a lot, drives brilliantly and the bits that matter when you aren’t flat out (steering and chassis) are truly superb. It isn’t slow by any stretch but simply lacks the urge and rawness of the older car -...
Productive day.
I painted the 200 hubs and wheel bolts as they were proper nasty. Rear calipers too - fronts will have to wait until I can afford to have them professionally done.
Took the 172 out for a blast too - whole lotta fun. 3 weeks in and it’s fair to say that the 200 lags well behind...
Brilliant. Getting a perfect finish in the areas where polishing is almost impossible once assembled is bang on - and way better than the factory to boot. Nice one.
Pulled them both out in the sunshine today and had a drive out in the 172. The older car still feels more urgent and more low end grunt. Still lucky to have both so I’m happy ?
Very pointy - chassis is amazing and in non Cup spec not too harsh. Steering direct and really precise. First to third gears a bit short. It feels quicker than I suspect it actually is - I reckon my 172 is no slower but I think that’s the extra weight and sound deadening. Way more top end shove...
Update on the 200...
It’s polished and sealed with Zaino, B pillar trims tidied up and new sportcontact 5’s at the front. Wheels are too far gone so wil be refurbed and front calipers likewise - I know I’m fussy and I knew they were poor when I bought it but I enjoy a challenge lol. Pitted from...
