    JoeyD's MX5 NC Recaro

Thanks chaps! Think the exterior can be left alone now, I don't want to go overboard on carbon. Might consider carbon dash strips, but that's probably about it. First MOT is due next month, so it really needs mapping before then. I need to sort the rear arches out too as they're eating my tyres...

    E92 BMW M3 - A slight upgrade.

Very jealous! Looks awesome. Correct colour and gearbox. Personally prefer the standard 18" wheels on these, but it's spot on otherwise. Bet the step up in mid-range torque is laughable! The GT's I've driven felt really flat.

Dread to think how much that'd be once it gets to the UK! Best option seems to be Blink: http://www.blinkmotorsport.com/?page_id=420 But for that price I'd just want a turbo tbh. Anyway, finished off fitting the bumper this afternoon, decided to throw some dirty water over it and go take some...

    JoeyD's MX5 NC Recaro

Of course not! Think it's got a 38mph limit. But it's so easy to get caught out at traffic lights for example. Then you look like a complete c**t holding up traffic to get the roof down.

    JoeyD's MX5 NC Recaro

I'm unconvinced, seems to just echo a lot in the PRHT. Things like road noise and my stupid exhaust just resonate a lot and it kinda rattles sometimes. And just from a personal point of view, I prefer the soft top looks wise. Weight difference isn't really big at all so that's not worth worrying...

How To Get Into Drifting... C+C please!

Been subscribed for a while too. Almost bought a K20 EK because of it, and now it's made me want to do skids. So... I guess you're doing a good job! Lol On the voice-over vid, I thought you sounded like you were purposefully talking slowly. Sounded a little odd but only because I'm northern as...

    JoeyD's MX5 NC Recaro

Yep I've tried this. Unfortunately if you've ever seen the inside of the boot on an MX5 it's all hard plastic panels which rattle like f**k. So you just get vibration noise rather than exhaust noise sadly! Yep. The 'girls car' comments are unreal with this gen! If I were to buy again, I'd save...

    JoeyD's MX5 NC Recaro

That's it, it's fun inside the speed limit. Having said that, it can get exceedingly frustrating at times - 99% of drivers are fast on the straights and slow in the corners, and obviously this thing is the complete opposite... Can't wait to get it to a track now though, it's so very nearly ready!

    JoeyD's MX5 NC Recaro

Yep, they're 17x8 ET45. Very light too actually! Well worth considering

    JoeyD's MX5 NC Recaro

Cheers Chris, quite happy with it now - just needs a bit more shove. Finally got round to fitting the carbon lip which was an absolute ballache to say the least. Not got round to properly re-attaching the bumper or washing the car yet so I'll get some better pictures once it's done.

    JoeyD's MX5 NC Recaro

The microphone is practically inside the exhaust tip, so it's maybe exaggerated a tad: But yeah, bigger backbox is probably on the cards when I get a midpipe...

    JoeyD's MX5 NC Recaro

Its an MX5, they're all slow really! Think BBR manage 6.1 seconds 0-60 with the 200hp kit, so that's not too bad.
  14. J

    JoeyD's MX5 NC Recaro

It is slow! Doesn't help going uphill either... Good fun kicking its head in though.
  15. J

    JoeyD's MX5 NC Recaro

It should be around 180hp when mapped. No idea what it is now, but it's definitely a lot more perky with the manifold. The standard one is a big restriction

    JoeyD's MX5 NC Recaro

Did a quick exhaust video, kinda gives an idea of the sound after fitting the manifold. I had a play around with the position of the microphone, so it sounds a bit different throughout and also probably doesn't sound too good through headphones either - bit distorted at times... Needs mapping...

Saxo VTS as a track car

Firstly, well done for actually managing to find a Saxo VTS - they seem to be like rocking horse poo nowadays. Looks very tidy! Just wanted to give a bit of an input on the MX5 thing. They are SLOW. A 106/VTS would be much easier/cheaper to make much quicker having owned both - so good shout...

    JoeyD's MX5 NC Recaro

You're lucky, I don't have many excuses to actually drive the thing at the moment - just kinda sits there most of the time. Yep, I think I've spent quite enough for now! Going to have to start saving for my next house too, I would have got that turbo kit otherwise but my Mrs would have killed...

    JoeyD's MX5 NC Recaro

You could make decent power for sure, but it's just not a happy engine. And then when you weigh up the cost vs results of N/A and boost its kind of a no-brainer really! IMO anyway. ITB's are a nice novelty, but a bit useless for going fast. Internals have low compression etc... How are you...

    JoeyD's MX5 NC Recaro

Not for now, if Blink start supplying cams again I might consider it. But to be honest it doesn't really feel that slow to me - like I said I'm driving a Transit Monday to Friday so this feels plenty quick enough at the moment. I've been out in a mates M140i and while it's all good fun being...
  21. J

    JoeyD's MX5 NC Recaro

Yeah, this is essentially a 180 kit once it's mapped. Minus a panel filter lol. No idea why cams are so much really. Blink told me they've stopped doing them now, but they had to charge around £1100 because they cost so much to buy from the supplier. BBR's cams look like great value at £649...

    JoeyD's MX5 NC Recaro

True enough, same with all the other parts I guess, but unfortunately I can't spend another ~£4k on a car I don't really even need in the first place. There's also the question of reliability - the turbo kits seem to have a habit of melting when subjected to track use and I cba with all that - I...

    JoeyD's MX5 NC Recaro

Thanks for the kind words chaps! Makes all the scuffed knuckles, cut up hands and aching back worth it when you stand back and it looks like that! Haha, yeah just a bit!! Blimey that was so long ago wasn't it... Amazing the difference having a proper job makes. I can't tell you how jealous I am...

    JoeyD's MX5 NC Recaro

Well, I managed to get my RSR's fitted, there's a little bit of scrubbing at the rear, but I reckon a few taps with a hammer on the arch lip and it'll be sorted, it's only very slight. Looks way better than on those tiny 40 profile AD08's anyway! I finally gave it a wash (thanks Seb!) And...

    JoeyD's MX5 NC Recaro

Yes, got a Wilwood little big brake kit for the front. Just waiting for some information on the brake lines as I'm fairly certain it's not going to be straight forward...

    JoeyD's MX5 NC Recaro

Thanks chaps! Have a celebratory skid/wheel chirp (can't really call it a burnout ha!) These tyres are so bad!
  27. J

    JoeyD's MX5 NC Recaro

Well, my wheels nuts finally arrived this morning... All I can say is, I think this is the only time where reality has looked BETTER than the photoshop. Very pleased! Just need to get my RSR's fitted. The AD08's are pretty bald.

    Expensive Volvo 340 Day

This is amazing! I'm guessing an F4R would slot right in just the same?
  29. J

    JoeyD's MX5 NC Recaro

Thanks chaps! Yeah, if you ever get the chance then definitely give a MK3 a go, decent upgrade in every respect as I've said earlier in the thread! This MK3 is beginning to look a lot like my MK1 too...

    JoeyD's MX5 NC Recaro

These are quite strangled out the factory, have a cat in the manifold and a cat in the midpipe. Next on my list is a 4-1 manifold and remap, so it'll sound different again! Think the sound changes a lot depending on the back-box too. I quite like this Cobra one, although it is a little boomy...
