New Shell has arrived
After waiting nearly 8 weeks it's finally here! :)
It turned up at the dealers on Saturday just before they closed. Since I was nearly home from work I asked if it would be ok for them to hang onto it and arrange delivery once I was home. I popped into the dealers this...
Another quick update:
The shell is now sitting at the dealers, it's due to be sent down to my mates place tomorrow. Apparently it arrived on a big pallet as apposed to the crate they expected it to be in but the parts guy has had a good look over it and it appears to have made it over...
Quick update:
Got an email from the parts guy at Renault today, the new shell is in the country  they expect it to be with them by the end of the week and will be delivering it out to me early next week.
The waterjet cut plates for the strut towers have been made and are in the post so...
That panel still giving you grief, by the looks of it you need to use a bigger spot cutter. The welds on that bit are at least 10mm diameter. The plate is quite thick (for a clio that is) so even if you miss small bits of spot weld, the top plate will not tear off as with other brackets else...
If you've been using the hole saw type, that would explain the frustration, if you get the type shown in the ebay link, first time you use it you'll wonder why you struggled with the other kind, honestly the difference is night and day. They have a small centre drill on them and you simply put...
What type of cutter have you been using?
I tried the hole saw type with the pin in the centre but they're hopeless imho, they can work but I found you had to centre punch the spot weld to give it something to locate on otherwise it would just skip about all over the place and then break the...
I removed that bit from my old shell, was a bit tricky but managed ok, i'll need to do it again on the new one but at least ill know better how to attack it!
You've probably noticed the spot welds are quite big on that bit, best get your self one of these...
New shell still hasnt arrived :dapprove:
Last update I got was on Tuesday of this week, apparently that was it ready to leave France and from then it would be 5-10 working days, not much I can do apart from sit and wait, the parts guy said he was doing what he could to hurry them along but as...
Small update;
New shell hasn't arrived, it was due this week but never showed, hopefully it'll turn up sometime next week.
With regards to the rollcage, it looks like a potential change of plan regarding who is fitting it, the guy I was originally hoping could do it is snowed under with work...
Found reference to the 30kgs in that thread but also mention of the underseal and seam sealer weighing 10-20kgs and the rest being paint, so not too far off with my guesstimate.
I believe the shell comes with a new vin, not sure what you would do if it was going to be a road car with potential...
I suppose when you take into account the weight of all the primer and paint aswell it could be near 30kgs but you'll have to put some of that weight back on as most places who acid dip a shell will then dip the shell in a zinc primer, then obviously you need to repaint it so the total saving...
Where did you read or hear that figure? seems a lot? The stone guard on the floor pan and rear arches might weight a few kgs and if you added up all the seam sealer on the whole car that might come to a few kgs too but all in I cant see much more than 10kgs.
I doubt i'll go as far as acid...
I did ask them that Chris but they couldnt tell me, I suspect it will come undersealed and in that grey/kaki colour primer. If if it does indeed come undersealed I dont think ill go to the trouble of removing it all, would take ages. The stuff on the underside of the floor will most probably be...
Fairly major change of plan:
Last week I continued to strip the car down and got it to nothing more than the bare shell and two bits of glass still bonded in. The car was very cheap and I knew when I bought it that it was a bit grubby underneath and some of the suspension parts etc I could see...
Cheers,
Yeah phoned the dealer this morning, should be in later today, not that i need them in a major hurry but figure I might as well order bits I need as I go.
Should have been up at the farm ages ago but been a bit distracted since I got up, reading up on things and ordering stuff off...
Cheers, progress has been a bit slower than I'd have liked but there's only so much I can do in a day working away on my own.
I'm going to use some M3 or M4 stainless button head allen bolts and go through the small lip on the outside edge of the door, probably going to need about 20-25 of...
Not a great deal more to report, tidied up the passenger door and trimmed about as much out as I dare, need to take it off so I can drill out the last 3 spot welds holding the door bar in, but once thats out I recon that should just about do it, it's pretty flimsy but it'll serve it's purpose...
Well that was a quick day, standing back it doesnt look like or feel like a huge amount for 12hrs work but it's all progress.
When I initially removed the rear bumper I was suspicious the car might have had the back panel changed at some point, certainly wasnt a major bump as the tyre well etc...
