Ah right, I did wonder if it was a bespoke job as I didnt recognise it.
You not want to ditch the oe seat mounts? easy bit of weight to lose.
Taking a clue from your user name, I assume your quite tall? with the seat that far back there's no way i'd reach the pedals lol
Yeah I've seen those, but not all that impressed with the quailty, know a couple of guys who have used them on other cars.
I think i'll go with the standard pedal set up for now, at least till i get the car built and running, it's something that can be revisited at a later date if need be, would...
Looks good Ash, you've got your seat rails a lot further back than I do, what make is your cage, looks like it gives you a lot more room.
Where my seat is now I'm just right for the standard pedal box, hope it never happens lol but with the brake pedal on the floor my leg is still slightly...
Yeah they were very nice :dapprove: I was in denial for at least 2hrs as I tried every combination possible to get them to fit, the only option that was anywhere near close was to raise them up about 100-125mm off the floor in order to get them far enough forward but then that gave all sorts of...
Well it looks like my concerns about getting the Tilton pedal box to fit where justified :dapprove:
Spent most of the weekend working on it, I now have the seat rails and mounting lugs made up (no pictures unfortunately, forgot the camera both days!) and the seat is sitting in it's final...
Didn't have much time today, a lot of it was spent sitting in the house waiting for stuff to arrive but thankfully most of what I was waiting for turned up, eventually.
Popped up to the shed late this afternoon and offered up the seat to see what i've got to work with
The wheel and...
Home again, was working nightshift this time and my bodyclock is shot to hell :S got this for the next 5 or 6 months so I guess I'd better get used to it.
I've also got a course to got to next week so thats 3 days lost out of my time off but hey ho nothing I can do about that.
My daily runner...
Now that it's all in it does fit well, the tubes are a good fit against the shell but it's definately been a bit of a challenge, given it's the first time i've done a roll cage though, i'm pretty happy with the result.
I did look at this when I got the cage, the tube which goes between the rear turrets has the thickest wall of all the tubes in the cage, 2mm vs 1.2 or 1.6mm for everything else.
This to me suggests Custom Cages intended for that to be used as the harness bar as there is no other reason for it...
Not sure when it's likely to be finished Chris, haven't set a deadline but would quite like to get it out before the end of next season, even one or two sprints and a trackday would be cool.
It's going to be white inside and out, most likely with black wheels. I'll see what it's like once it's...
Hard to believe thats 3 weeks over already, didn't get quite as much done as I'd hoped but these things happen, made some progress on some stuff that will help later on.
My mate came up yesterday and and finished off welding the cage, there's still some things to do inside the car, seat rails...
Struggled a bit to get motivated today, had to drag my self up to the shed, still, managed to get the other side of the subframe done, pictures came out a bit better today. The subframe had been shotblasted a few months ago, was pretty much spotless when it was done, never realised it had...
While raising the roll centre would allow the car to be run pretty low there's a limt to how far you can go before you run into issues with cv joints and driveshaft angles so we were just focussing on getting the car to handle well at a sensible ride height.
This is all very much a case of suck...
While i'm waiting for bits to arrive I thought I'd make a start on modifying the subframe to raise the front roll centre. I'd had a chat with a mate who's pretty good with stuff like this, obviously we dont have access to gucci suspension or chassis set up programs/software so we just took a few...
Cheers again lads, progress has been painfully slow recently but thats just the way it is sometimes.
The main reason for the alterations to the strut towers was to allow me to run a bit more castor, the struts are going to be made to suit, once the top mounts are in position I can get some...
Well, home again, actually been home for just over a week but we may have a potential house purchase on the cards so thats taken up some of my time, could be an amazing renovation project and it's exactly the sort of thing my girlfriend and I are looking for with plenty room for a nice big...
Cheers again for the comments guys.
My mate came up on Monday night after work and finished off the 2nd bottle of argon but unfortunately didnt quite get all the welding on the cage finished :dapprove:
Sure I read somewhere that at 10ltrs a min flow rate you get about 3.5hrs continuous welding...
Smart looking car mate.
What did they do about the rear thrust angle? just shim the rear hubs to try and dial it out?
I was thinking about this when I stipped my donor 172 cup and removed the rear beam. There's quite a lot of scope for the beam mounts to move around on the bolts. Thinking...
Cheers for the comments guys.
My mate and I put in another full shift today but once again never quite got as much done as we'd hoped :dapprove:
However, the cage is now fully welded into the car at the 6 main points, main hoop, A-pillars and the rear turrets. Most of the tricky bits are now...
My mates been up a few nights this week doing some welding, never seem to get as much done as we'd like but tig is quite a slow process and some of the joins have been pretty tricky to get into so that slows things down further but it's obviously very important to ensure all the tubes are fully...
Yeah the cage is supposed to have an X brace in the main hoop behind the seats, there's a bit of an issue with that bit though, ie part of it is 30mm short! :( need to phone Custom Cages in the morning.
Interesting that you mention the seating position, I did wonder about that when I first...
Progress has been a little slow the past couple of days, had a few niggles with some of the tubes not fitting properly, but thats just par for the course with something like this, so many tubes/angles etc tiny variables, a mm here a mm there and before you know it, you have a more obvious error...
Was up at the farm early this morning and spent the day getting the main section of the cage ready to be welded in, so it was a case a measuring everything and then measuring it a few more times to make sure it was a close as I could feasibly get it and getting the weld areas cleaned and prepped...
Nope, would be a bit of a nightmare to try and refit once the X is fitted between the turrets and I dont see that it has much of a structural effect anyway.
The wiper mounting looks a bit odd sitting there on it's own so it's most likely going to get the chop too but i'm leaving it be for now...
Lost some time over the weekend thanks to the lure of beer lol but it was a good laugh and sometimes it's good to get away from it for a day or two.
Was back at the farm early this morning to carry on with fitting up the cage, dont feel like i've achieved much but it's quite a tedious job and...
Cheers for the commets guys.
Had another late start due to going shopping for some supplies. There's been another slight change of plan regards who is welding the cage in, so it's now going to be Tig welded at my workshop. Went to pick up an Argon bottle and various other consumables, and some...
Had a few things to do this morning so only got started about 11am but still managed to get a fair bit done, started removing brackets and any other bits that aren't needed.
Managed to get this plate off quite quickly this time, largely down to having already taken it off the other shell...
Not sure, I might seem weld some of it, round the bulk head and front chassis legs but once the cage is tied into the strut tops etc I dont know if it's going to be worth the hassle.
