Must do Clay Pigeon one day!
Graham, to go back over old ground, there's definitely something weird with the steering on your car. It's sooo long winded compared with mine. It must cost you masses of time, especially at venues like Clay. Watching our onboards from Castle Combe you're using...
Great to see you at the weekend Graham - isn't it brilliant to have started again?!
I've found Combe such a hard circuit to learn, not helped because it feels quite intimidating with such high speeds and so little run-off in some places. I've now done four sprints and a track day and it's...
Hello all,
I 've got an on-going hazard light problem and wonder if you could check I'm not missing anything...
This first happened a couple of months ago on a horribly wet day. The hazards came on for a few seconds and then went off. The same thing happened a few more times that day, but only...
It's their "Autumn Speed Finale" meeting ("pre-finale" on the Saturday) - http://www.shelsleywalsh.com/events/
I'll be competing on both days as they're rounds of my championship (the Welsh Sprint and Hillclimb Championship). Fingers crossed for decent weather!
Sorry, I hope I didn't come across as being arsey as that wasn't my intent. You'll always get people with non-compliant cars in club motorsport, and nine times out of ten they get away with it. Some are ignorant of the rules, but others do it deliberately. I don't understand why, it can't be...
Thanks Graham. I'll be honest though and admit that until I read about my victory on Facebook I hadn't heard of the Bristol MC Speed Championship and wasn't aware that I was entered in it!! Haha.
Nice write-up Graham. I do love Wiscombe, such a fun and challenging hill in the most beautiful location.
I had a fairly good day on Saturday, I shaved a whole 0.08s off my PB but that was more than enough for maximum points in my championship. On the other hand I was beaten quite...
Hi Graham,
Combe's my local track. I've hardly driven it but would love to get it sussed.
I've always been in the 'brake early' camp but at the recent Dick Mayo Sprint I thought I'd try the other approach. I did yet another split-screen video showing my quickest opening lap at the Great...
Here's Wiscombe...
I'm surprised that my car seems a bit quicker to Bunny's Leap, but it's quickly beaten once into the twisties.
I love Wiscombe, can't wait until September.
In hindsight this is an unfair comparison as I know the circuit better than Graham - maybe I'll do another with Wiscombe where Graham thrashed me!
It is interesting though, Graham's car is quick off the line (as you'd expect with a diff and sticky tyres) but otherwise there doesn't seem to be...
Graham, hope you don't mind but I nicked your video from YouTube and put it together with mine for a split-screen jobbie. I thought it would be interesting...
There are loads of championships...
I'm doing the Welsh Sprint and Hillclimb Championship (http://www.wshc.wamc.org.uk/) which oddly includes venues like Wiscombe in Devon and MIRA in the Midlands as well as Castle Combe etc...
There's a Association of South-West Motor Clubs sprint...
I've been doing hillclimbs and sprints for just over a year. I absolutely love them, hillclimbs more than sprints, but they're all great. You'll hear some people moaning about the lack of seat time (on Saturday we had four ~75sec runs) but for me that's one of the reasons it's so exciting. At a...
I share your thoughts about Castle Combe - there's about a million different lines you could take, and it's hard to know which of those you should take!
I managed a 74.67 on my first timed run, but it rained for the second so only managed a 77. I think the Clio Cup was the only class affected...
Well done Graham!
For what it's worth I reckon R888Rs are useless for sprints/hillclimbs. I'm as quick around Castle Combe on cold Michelin PS3s (sprinting) as my quickest lap on warm R888Rs (track day).
Yeah, it's on 16s (I prefer the handling on 15s but they're a no-no in the Standard Car category) but I doubt there's much difference in circumference. I guess you need fourth as you're carrying more speed through the corners and accelerate more quickly on the straights with those throttle bodies...
Mine's got the standard rack (as far as I know).
Yours doesn't look like it's understeering particularly. Maybe it's a geometry thing, lots of toe-out perhaps?
Graham, one thing I've noticed from watching your onboard is that your car seems to need far more steering lock than mine.
Are you using a non-PAS rack from a 'normal' Clio?
I'm beginning to get a complex about these "Hooligan" comments...!!
Graham, it was great to talk to you at the weekend and I don't mind in the slightest being beaten by such a nice bloke.
Yep, he (Mark Tozer) was loads quicker than the rest of us in practice and would've been loads quicker in the first timed run but had his time disallowed for running off the track somewhere. He over-compensated a bit much in T2 and only finished third.
