Hi. I'm going to do an arch by arch refurb and wax protect, etc on my cup. Calipers will need a repaint. Am I right in thinking that they were silver when new? many thanks.
I reckon I will. I've only just got the car and am working my way through servicing it as its been standing for a while. Once I'm happy that its all running well, I'll get going on the wheels.
Are you sure about all 172 cups having the 16s worldwide? I'm sure there was a guy on here from South America who said 172 cups were supplied with 15 inch Turinis over there? I guess maybe I did dream it:)
Hi, well several questions really:
1. I'm sure that I read on here somewhere that the 172 Cup was designed for 15" wheels but for some reason or other in the UK it came with 16". Did I dream this or is it true? If it is true, did the 15" wheel cars originally come with shorter springs too?

Many thanks. Just spoke to George at wolves. Nice fella. Although, he has worried me when he said "if its a 172 then we will definiately be speaking again"...mm...
Hi. I have just bought a 172 cup and I think my alternator is on the way out. (very hot and smells of burning). I will test it all out at the weekend, but as I will definitely need to get new bits and pieces, where is the best place to get them please? I see wolverhampton renault mentioned alot...
Yes!!! As a fellow old man/fist shaker I recognise the truth when I trip over it and then promptly forget where I put it. I always viewed driving as a skill that I wanted to improve to the extent I could. I've been on nearly 20 of Andy Walsh's car limits days over the years and loads of...
I suppose thats why I said "If you are used to it and can overcome the natural reaction to mash the brake pedal ..etc". I meant it in the sense that stopping in a shorter time without abs is achievable, not that one should disconnect an abs system, if your car is so equipped, in order to stop...
A hot little twingo might be just the thing for me. Given, 95% of my driving is bombing about in town and into London, something really small and nippy could be the best idea. I need to go and try all these things.
this is another dealer car, would also be good with 500 quid knocked off! i like the red.

Hi Impreza, there's a chap on one of the facebook groups in Nottingham who is talking about 4500 for his albi blue one. 11 plate , 82k miles (maybe a bit far?) belts done two years ago. Recaros, etc. I've dropped him a line.
Thanks chaps that's very helpful. Martin and MW, those are very helpful descriptions that really convey the different feel of the two cars. It sounds like the 200 cup is perhaps the better fit for me as I certainly wont be doing any trackdays and I very much like the idea of a road going racing...
If you are used to it and can overcome the natural reaction to mash the brake pedal, by modulating the brake yourself you can stop a non-abs car in much less distance than in an abs car.
This is interesting. How about the characteristics of power delivery?, it sounds as if the 200 is "peakier" which in my mind is a good thing. I note it makes its max bhp about 1k revs higher than the 172. Does that mean you have to "wring its neck" more to keep it on cam, making use of closer...
Thanks for your thoughts. I totally understand the more modern car being "grown up" and much more sophisticated. The 200 is a lovely place to be, but I can also imagine that maybe you can have your fun at lower speeds in the 172 and that something i'm really in favour of. i.e. is the 200 so...
Hmm..thats kind of where my thinking is, the 172 makes most sense in terms of what I want from a car, but..the 200 does look amazing! especially the seats! fuel isnt really a big issue - i doubt i'd get close to 3k miles a year,
Hi. Why's that then? Is the 200 revvier? I guess it has a shorter ratios in the box as it has 6 speeds, I love the feeling of having to get your changes right so teh car doesnt go off cam - will i get more of that feeling in the 200 do you think? thanks for your reply:)
Ok, so these types of discussion have been done to death already..but..without wishing to bore everyone, could someone who has had both 172 cup and 200 cup kindly give me the benefit of their wisdom please?
So, I live in SW London/Surrey borders, I dont drive to work, I dont commute, my driving...
pps. Are any of the interior bits for the 172 cup the same as on 182s? I know the rear seats are different (although still fit) but what about rear cards and the plastic stuff like the parcel shelf supports and the shelf itself? Also, what colour should all these bits be on a 172cup? many thanks:)
