Can't see that working out mate - tempted to buy a boosted one this time (and then fit all the mods I fitted to your current one!)
Surprised that you're finding the billies too stiff for track work. I know AST are the 'ones to have' for track, but will be extremely stiff for road use.
Gutted about the wheels mate. Check the receipts as they came with a warranty - I got them done at the wheel specialist in Fareham. It may even be worth an email and see what they say. Glad you're still enjoying it though!
I'm on my 4th now, which is being used as a winter hack whilst being converted into a fast road / track toy. Means I can keep my other in the garage (and under the blanket) through the crap winter months.
You won't be able to run the 300mm with 15" as they just won't fit in the barrel of the wheel. One option is to drop down to a 280mm disc on the brembos, which is the setup I have.
Another vote here for PMS shifter! Possibly one of the things I've bought for mine and as you said, £300 delivered for a gearbox back replacement shifter, isn't actually that bad!
I've also had both, although the yanoo was with a phase 1 gear knob.
Both very good, but I personally prefer the PMS, if you can put up with the vibration and extra noise (nothing too bad).
The yanoo can be adjusted to stiffen the shift, which is nice, but overall the position and positive...
I am currently building a 182 that I can use on track later this year, but also use daily through the winter to keep my other car off the sh**ty roads. It will always be a compromise between comfort and performance on track, however id like to think I've got a fair balance.
For 2.5K you will be...
Fitting is quite straight forward, its the lining up the gears which is the biggest headache, I initially lined mine up in reverse, but had a few problems with selecting fifth and reverse. Then I used fourth gear, which worked perfectly, not had any problems since! :)
The only way you'll know is when you get it in the air, could be many potential things:
- wheels / tyres
- wishbones
- bent shock / adjustable bolts
- subframe
- hub?
I've just emailed the director of topgear to see if he could offer a significant discount on a potential group buy.
If you don't ask.. you don't get!
I will update with the response.
A brake refresh should be more than sufficient. I (and many others here) would probably advise brembo high carbon (HC) discs, ferrodo DS2500 or similar pads with some fresh fluid and possibly braided lines. Road Track Race Parts on here will be able to supply all of the above at a good price...
With your budget, I'd personally be looking for a 172/182 with some track orientated parts, which can be had for around 2.5K/3K. You can then spend the remaining budget making the car how you want it, whether that would be more extreme coil overs or performance mods!
