High miles on the F4R shouldn't be a issue if serviced properly. My 172 is now on 152k and the engine is still very strong, and doesn't drink a drop of oil between oil changes.
Well it turns out my gearbox is fubar'd :(
Just need to decide weather or not to just whack in a replacement box for the time being, or add a Quaife LSD.
Yes I am running the CL RC6 pads atm mate, IIRC they are around £160 from Kam racing. If my car was running I would let you have a go in my 172 so you could test them out.
I disagree with a lot of the comments saying stripping doesn't make a difference, it does! My 172 is quite a bit quicker now it's stripped out, very noticeable when you drive mine and a standard 172 back to back, and I still have quite a bit more to do regarding weight loss, Fiberglass doors...
Mine is now on 152k the engine is still very strong, still makes book power, and doesn't drink a drop of oil between oil changes. It has been looked after well in my 10.5 years of ownership though.
Well I had a proper look at the car yesterday evening, and think the gearbox is on its last legs 😧 I will upload a video of the noise it's making later. It does sound similar to this though.
..Looks like I'll be getting a Quiafe LSD quicker than I had planned
Shame you couldn't make it mate. Thanks for the offer of help Paul, hopefully see you at the next SC meet :)
The PMS one is a nice bit of kit and very light, I just got fed up with needing to adjust it often. If my car was just a trackday toy then I probably would have kept the PMS lightweight...
Good to meet/ chat to you too mate. Long day for you then Fraser!
Shame about your driveshaft, I would have liked a pass lap in your car to finally hear what the PMS exhaust system sounds like driven in anger. :)
