Yeah I guess you're right. I think the quality of the joints makes a big difference. Just a bit of a concern as I knew a guy in Denmark who broke a couple on an Escort like my old one. Hopefully yours will be alright.

I find it a very interesting car in a way. It appears very divisive. It was regarded as being pretty average by the motoring press, but many owners seem to adore them. Now it's been replaced by a transverse AWD version, the motoring hacks mourn the passing of the old one.
I know what you mean. Big cars don't really do much for me generally. I do quite like the 5-Series, and would probably have one as a "throw stuff in the back of" wagon, or as a tow car, but I think a Golf/Focus/1-Series car is about perfect for most stuff.
