Bit of news.
I’ve decided to race in the civic cup with a close friend and another who races in the Porsche championship with the same club that run TCR touring cars and British GT. It’s too good to turn down. So long story short I’m breaking the Clio. Will be putting up a parts list soon.
Started racing last year so hopefully I’m up to date on it ?
Your right step one is getting your go racing pack. Then Ards test has two parts. A driving test. I was probably going 50% pace. Keeping on line and concentrating on brake markers the examiner points out. Really nothing to worry...
Armtech battery isolator is what you want. Install it near the battery then has a push button for inside and outside the car to kill it. The cheap cut offs won’t work with these as the alternator will keep the engine running. Really smart kit and looks way better than the horrible turn key style...
So my luck continues. 1.5 track days later and the gearbox sounds like a bag of spanners. So that got ripped out for a rebuild.
Also took the inlets and throttle body off as they are off for port matching/gas flow. Going to give the group n timing a try.
Bought a new trailer aswell...
Ran a standard clutch for two years of track days and one race, no problems what so ever. Put in a fancy clutch for the next race as the car was taken apart anyway and it exploded after a 30 minute qualifying session and about 25 minutes of racing. Figure that one out ??
Ran a standard Valeo for two years with no problems at all. Now running a helix as we have plans. But if I was leaving the engine near standard I would save some beer tokens and stick to standard
I got some from Malc Buck. He supplies loads of used slicks/pads etc from the BTCC tour. Pretty sure mine are from the Ginetta series. At £180 a set your laughing (I pay £144 a tyre for the Dunlop’s I race on).
I had looked into this before I decided to get into racing. As mentioned above your most likely going to be against some pretty serious drivers and cars and it’s going to be expensive. Same thing with the turbo conversions aswell.
Started to sort everything out. Turns out it was the clutch that went bang. Got lucky with that one. Chucked a new Helix in this time.
Got the epas done aswell. Front brakes had nearly died. So got some new disks and pads aswell. All ready for a trackday at Donny on the 10th.
I can’t remember who is was but there is a build on here where that they have fitted the shifter further back and made the linkage longer. Anything is possible ?
I currently run in Tin tops with a standard engine. I’ve qualified exactly middle of the grid the last two outings. There’s other places to spend the money first ? any pics of the car?
I’ve got really bad at updating this. So after the disaster at Brands we decided not to give up on the shell and have a go at repairing her. Took the chance to chuck a few upgrades in.
