Haha ... I really should have moved after selling my 172! Not because I was worried about the 172, but because Nik and Day came round unannounced (where they'd been with you that day) when Nik got his Trophy and the missus has never got over it ;).
Corr ... I actually take a step outside of General Chat for once, and it's a roller coaster ride of a thread!
Buying cars is always a nightmare, and to prove the point I've been told I've got to ring up Citroen today, since one of the keys has packed up, and now I've got to argue with them...
15" MBP
21.5" iMac
... and that's it since I don't do iPods, and I have a work BB and refuse to pay for a second number just to have an iPhone (or pay for a PAYG iPhone).
+1 on the 500D, which I choose over the 50D because of video. I'd previously always used a bridge camera, because I can't be doing having to have two devices and whilst I mostly shoot photos, I do like having video capabilities too.
500D is a cracker, and what I loose in terms of improved...
Yesterday I was shooting mostly with shutter priority around 1/200s with exposure knocked up 1/3 - 2/3eV to prevent the interesting bits being under exposed. Also I turned on Highlight Tone Priority which stretches the dynamic range a bit too on Canons. Results were really nice and high contrast :).
In my experience almost any mod could be reason enough for a Warranty Manager to try and dodge their responsibility, before they then use "wear and tear" as their next gambit ;). Fluffy dice?
Also in my experience, the shallow DoF with a nifty-fifty opened right up doesn't help with useful clarity when you're trying to capture a moving target. For sure something will be perfectly in focus, but it may not be the bit you want.
I'd typically use my good old 18-55, running at ISO 1600...
Let me guess ... is your insurance with part of the Admiral group?
I had somebody lightly tap the rear of my 172 whilst I was stationary at some traffic lights about 6 months prior to me getting the Vee. Nothing major but did go through insurance to get bumper replaced. It was only when I went...
Personally I think Vegas is the best editing software around. I used to use it on my XP box and once you've got your head around it, it is very powerful. It was only once I got Vegas that I was able to realize my full "Woodstock The Movie" multi-track dreams ...

Yep ... my love of 6R4s when I was younger was the reason why I decided I just had to have a Vee when the first came out. Similar fat squat purposefulness!
I hate messy cables! My preference is for cheap "spiral cable wrap" from Maplin. Comes in a variety of sizes, and not too expensive. http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=26849
Definitely a bargain ... will have to see if they've got them in store too! Whilst I back my data up to my NAS, must admit I'd like to be able to do a full bootable drive image of my MBP regularly, and doing that over the network would take just too long.
Or get yourself a cheap bridge camera ... much of the controllability of a DSLR, and many people won't notice the difference in fidelity at internet resolutions if used properly.
Knowsit ;). I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy the fact that people are fascinated by the Vee. However, in other instances I'm of course worried that it'll get damaged when I leave it somewhere because it stands out. However, I don't drive down the road thinking "ooohhh ... look at me"...
I have an N810 and I freaking love it, and it's not even a 'phone just a wifi internet tablet. I use it all over the place, and as LY can attest, even use the GPS on it for navigating to/around exploring sites.
With the N900 being a similar form factor tho', I wouldn't like one as my principle...
I've never used a D60 (or any Nikon), but I'm confident that you can fire the flash and keep the long exposure! Basically shutter priority will do that (or full manual) on every camera I've ever used! However, in auto or programmed modes popping the flash up will override the non-flash shutter...
I'd simply run it in shutter priority or full manual ... meter for the whole scene ... but then pop the flash to fill in the foreground. It's a trick I use regularly when shooting in really really dark environments ... so reduced flash + 30 seconds exposure.
The challenge in your situation is...
Doh ... being an irregular follower of the photo competition I'd forgotten all about the "- All images entered must be taken within the dates of the competition specified above." bit :o!
My moss picture was taken a while back, and so as awesome as I think it is, please can you scratch my...
