Why do my pictures seem 'cold' on my Canon?

It's a white balance issue (probably) but there's little point getting white balance right in camera and then working off an un calibrated monitor. Spyder express 4 £65. Auto white balance is a great starting point on the camera.

Do you have a calibrated screen you work from?

April Photography Competition - The Voting Thread

Don't take it personally mate, it is what it is :) I would rather be open and honest on here than simply say 'nice pic'! Otherwise it means very little when I do compliment someone's shots, as I have done with yours in the past. I simply can't sugar coat things...sorry.

Yup some great shots, Piers I love the last one, Aaron that last shot is very tranquil, seems underexposed but very nice. Niall, the wheel shot is great.

    Formatting an SSD in MBP

I have a macbook pro (non retina)and an ssd drive currently in a windows laptop. I wish to use the ssd drive in my MBP do I need to format it first or will the MBP sort all that out for me when I fit it? I have seen this video and it all seems simple but just concerned over whether I need to...

It won't show up in the pics mate if you can smash the front element and not notice it it in pics a few bits of dust will be fine!

Looks more like sensor dust than lens dust. Yeah I have more than a couple. Fave three are from the early 1980's so there's 90 years off the bat!

    Photography Chat and Questions Thread

Yeah shoot the sky at f16, the collective age of my lens collection has to be over 200 years old lol! Some have dust and it never shows.

    Photography Chat and Questions Thread

Have you put the lens in your camera and taken an image, you'd be surprised but you can literally smash the front element and it will only show up in certain light, I can link to a great article in this. once mounted its generally the smaller f stops such as f16 -32 that would show up dust or...

    The allure of full frame...

Let me give a more extreme example and perhaps I should of added the below assumes hand held. if f2 and 1/100 secs gives the desired exposure. That required exposure is the same on a compact camera or a full frame both need f2 and 1/100 secs to give 18% grey. Now if you shoot both cameras at...

    The allure of full frame...

Your right yes but I was considering the deeper depth if field you get with a smaller sensor. 5dmk3 and 85 1.2 is an awesome combo! Such a huge bit of glass!

looks like selective colouring (which it isn't) so great work as it confuses the eye at first, love the image and congrats on this twitter lark.

    The allure of full frame...

Full frame is about depth of field and for my pictures I always want max dof so I have to say for me full frame isn't necessary but Nial does rightly say about the look which was clearly evident in a pic he posted of a Porsche 911 a week or so back. I am slightly dubious about better low light...

    Morocco with new toys

I too prefer the non fish shots you have taken, I don't think the fish eye necessarily suits those scenes. I love Marac! Went to Marrakech and the Atlas Mountains a few years back it's such a culture shock!

Well as you know glass first ;-) I grew up with Minolta and I'm probably foremost a minolta fan, but sony is their digital modern day equivalent. I would absolutely consider an a7 or an a99 when the time is right!

A couple from me. Have been collecting some full frame classic minolta lenses and this is from the 135mm 2.8. This is from the far more modern RX10
