Okay - it started this morning, made a trip to Ikea and Trafford Centre and it started fine all those times. Does that suggest that my alternator is fine and is in fact charging the (dying) battery? Is a new battery recommended?
I can guarantee it won't start in the morning! So it must definitely be losing charge because if I switch it off after a long run, then on again, it just comes on. If I leave it a bit then it's reluctant to start.
I just wanted to be super sure before splashing out on a new battery.
Whilst the engine is running yes, I didn't have much time to do proper tests though. Should I be doing it with the engine off too after a run and seeing what voltage it's holding?
My 182 wouldn't start after work last night, had to get jumped.
Wouldn't start this morning but I only made a short journey from work. Jumped it, got to work fine and switched it off... then back on and it came on again.
I've had a new alternator in the past year.
When I finished work today...
Use a genuine Renault one and make sure it comes with a seal. They can be had for around £18 if I remember correctly and will most likely sort out your problem. Factor in a coolant change as well!
I've moved the thread to Clio Media where it will get more attention. Also, Flickr is your friend when uploading decent photos - much better quality uploads!
Rob, I still need to have a go in this Megane.
Ahh the good old burble bus.
I do it through my laptop - upload to Flickr and then copy and paste the link when I'm on the laptop. Unsure on how to do it just using the phone :(
It's more hassle than it's worth in the majority of CS' opinions. Dropping a replacement 1.2 in and either flogging it on or keeping it would be your best bet and getting something quicker at a later date. A replacement engine of the same size will just drop straight in there without much hassle...
