shift light is exceptionally easy to fit. Had it on my mk1 as a big yellow LED.

I just split the balljoint from the hub, undo the drop link and the tie rod, and swing it out the way so I can pull the shaft
I've done it the way you mention when I had to change top mounts on the suspension, yeah heavy as f**k!
you recon? Sure the hub setup is a bit of a mess around (easier than the megane though) but it's not THAT bad.
Worst bit IMO is trying to get the passenger side shaft out the box

don't use one of those extenders on a pre-cat lambda, they're for tricking the ECU when you de-cat by limiting the gases the post cat lambda sees.
Codes don't tell you much, you need someone who understands the live data of diagnostics to see what's going on
it's fluid stabilisation. if there wasn't anything around the level sensor, the warning light would come on every time you accelerated or went round a corner
