no the sat nav is always on if the headunit is, when its off its just a large clock with the temperature in the corner,

when i installed W7 on my macbook pro i used, a upgrade only disc, set it up as a trial and not put the product key in, then put the disc in again and it tricks the system into thinking it is a upgrade and you just use the product key you got with the upgrade disk...

you will need them for the front springs, back ones are easy just a slide in job, i did mine on my mk3 on wednesday wouldnt of been able to do it without them.
ive heard of people using rachet straps but i recon this would be dangerous, so just make life easy and get some compressors.
