Speaking as an owner of a V8 Merc from that era with Air Suspension, you will need that cost again to maintain it over the course of a year or two. They are frighteningly expensive to maintain.

It’s a new box with a gripper. Been recommended to uprate the clutch by numerous people. For the sake of an extra £350 to save an £1800 gearbox, rightly or wrongly I thought it best.
Absolutely no idea mate. It was about 12 years ago we put the engine in. 😂
It worked perfectly fine before with a standard clutch. But I guess a stronger/different clutch is beyond the realms of whatever is in there.
So my long suffering g mechanic Paul ( @lemonnobby ) has very kindly taken on the task of fitting the new gripper’d box and a new Sachs racing clutch whilst I tan myself in Spain.
He’s having trouble because the OE clutch cable is not meant for a Mk1 and it’s not fitting with the Sachs clutch...
