Messing about with mpps reading the ecu file on the blue dci yesterday. Been offered a cheap flash map and tempted to give it a shot. Is it wise or will it end up in tears!?
December 2020 - This is where we come into it.
So we have shook and agreed a price on T.Trophy. Im still unsure whether the sale will go through as can tell Steve is not 100% sure if he wants to sell, and totally understand as its a large decision to make after owning the car since new. My head...
Cheers Jon. I thought it would be nice to fill in the blanks in the thread before it all gets a bit hazy.
It was indeed a bit of a step taking another large project on whilst building the Kangoo and progress was slow until i got that more or less finished. I think you were the only person to...
2019
Slight diversion but bear with it as it all fits together in the end.
The years of sales. I move the old Kangoo 172 on to a new owner after CSF 2019. Come to the conclusion that it was a nice little thing and quirky but not fast enough. Steve H said to me when i bought it, that i would be...
I have the 3/8 milwaukee m12 fuel ratchet. The extended reach of the 3/8 is f**king epic for undoing a bolt thats balls deep in the engine bay if you can get it in. Its a good bit of kit, but you need to be careful not to overtighten small fixings with it.
On the larger stuff, m8 and up its...
Updates
Bought a genuine RenaultSport Sabelt X85 clio cup racer steering wheel from R.S performance official store recently. Original type, engraved Renaultsport lettering not the later stickered up type. Wanted one of these for years but thought id missed the boat as hard to find in the uk...
Ive no idea sorry mate. I believe they were custom made from a local hydraulics place, theres plenty of room to route them so no need to be knacker on length, add a bit to give you plenty to play with. There is some handy oem fixings in the bulkhead that you can p clip them down so no chance of...
Engine build part 2
Assembly continued. Cam cover sealed with anaerobic sealant from Renault as originally intended.
Note 197 dephaser fitted for full scope of 40degrees of inlet advance available.
Cam timing to stock settings using genuine tooling. Horseshoe fit video as everybody loves a vid...
Mine used to hesitate for a mile or so in cooler ambient temps until the coolant gauge hit a certain point and then absoultely fine, it was like clockwork. I guess was as soon as it was off cold start and into closed loop fuelling. Winter use was not the best on short journeys, but summer good...
Next update - Engine refresh
Over 2018 - 2020 Steve refreshed the engine. As the previous post there was not a lot wrong with the previous engine build apart from it pissing oil out of the crank seal and due a cambelt change.
New block was prepared by Amac engineering. Its a meg 250 block to...
Absolutely this, diy all the way.
I refurbed the wilwood calipers for the trophy with new seals and bleed nipples. Clean clean clean and clean again and rebuild. The mrs put them back together after i showed her how to install one piston, so easy. Rears with handbrake mech can be a patience...
Indeed. Id bet my bottom dollar the fuel trims add more fuel on the 172 to suit wear and tear on the pump, and with it being n/a you can get away with a half knackered pump for ages before it starts running real rough.
Im sure the pump body has the internal filter like the megs so it prob has...
Updates
For first time in years i can say all 7 of the cars are road legal and useable! Ive drove all of them this week too which is a goal of its own.
Megane hardly been used since last post but have had it out. Such a great car and does everything i need. Its fast enough to lose your licence...
My kangoo 172 had an issue with weak fuel pressure regulator, on a cold start if sat for a week or so it needed 2x clicks of the ign so it primed the pump to get a clean start. Failing to to do that and cranking it loads resulted in a rough start and it was unhappy until warm, and it always ran...
Thats all bases covered for sure sensor wise. Wonder if any faults inside the ecu? I seen something similar on another car where a capacator was on its last legs in the ecu causing odd quirks like this. Ive not had a 172 ecu apart to see whats in it though so god knows. Has fuel pressure/pump...
Small update.
Blue dci has been delivering the goods in the heatwave with ice cold aircon even on the mega hot 40degree day we had, Absolute trooper.
Not used the orange dci much due to lack of aircon but give it a run out last week and still good as gold. It was flagging up a track 1...
I think that might be sorted now. Steve had not fitted the spigot bearing in the ttv flywheel:LOL: it also had an issue with the hydraulic clutch, biting point was always right on the floor. It had what looked to be a dci clutch dampener fitted in the line which had failed, i removed it for a...
Back to it.
In our group chat i was receiving regular updates about the strip down of the Trophy for the next evolution. I recall this was early 2018.
Parts coming off.
Large oil cooler and remote oil filter setup, with view of centre fed plenum.
Ndo gearbox sat in the bay.
One of the issues...
I drove the Trophy to Advance detail weekend before Blyton with no a/c. Was 31degrees with sun on me all the way for 50 miles, was dripping when i got out of the car. Had both windows down made no difference o_O defo not the most pleasant. Mrs was following in the dci with a/c on and loving it
Now where were we?
So T.Trophy is off the cards at that moment for us and we have an itch for another car. We had been looking for the unicorn that is the extreme blue meg 250 cup, in low mileage with recaros etc. After being extremely messed about with a few examples (usual Bullshit, i want to...
