My son had an EP3 and every time I drove it I commented on the steering. It reminded me of my Kia Pro_Ceed GT which had electric PAS and was fine on the roads, but on circuit felt vague - like steering a boat. And every time I looked in the rear view mirror there seemed to be a Clio sitting on...
Makes sense. Certainly less 182's, about especially in the TDT over the last few years, and spare parts are getting a lot harder to find and expensive too.
Started reassembling the front dampers and finished off the brake calipers.
Totally rebuilt the calipers with new seals, pistons, bolts and HEL stainless steel bleeders. Hate the factory ones as they’re so soft.
Gave the springs some anti-corrosion treatment, some extra layers of paint and...
Nothing special here but an update nonetheless. Sorting through the parts I’m keeping and restoring to a decent standard. Again, finish isn’t the priority on these parts as it’s not a show car and will be in daily use. But they’re well protected against corrosion which is what counts.
I was...
Began stripping out the suspension today. Everything came off pretty easily as I suspect the parts have been recently replaced in the last year or so.
I’ll be replacing pretty much everything with genuine parts and bolts, except the springs and hubs which I’ll refurbish.
Got both sides...
Have a look on K-Tec Racing website at the 750 MC 182 championship regs. Some good information in there on what you’ll need to do to build a decent circuit car. Trackday Trophy website has similar information as I’m sure there’s many others.
For that kind of budget I’d just do what was suggested above and take a standard car, do the belts £600 ish, stick some decent track tyres on like AD08Rs, NSR etc..PBS Pads and put it on circuit then go from there. Baffled sump won’t be necessary.
Then if you get the bug, start buying better...
I think I’d rather put a 5-6k Clio into the barriers than that beauty. Plus a properly set up Clio 182 in the right hands will more than hold its own on a circuit.
I’d go for a proper dedicated set up as they’re pretty good standard on circuit but you’ll soon find yourself over driving it as the more track orientated Clio’s go past you.
Happy to send you info on mine, not for sale by the way, but I’ve got a couple of road going 182’s and a dedicated 182...
2 weeks and 400 miles later after fixing the oil leaks/cleaning the engine, it was time to check if my work was up to standard.
Super happy to see no leaks and the last major milestone complete for this project.
So that’s pretty much it for this car, just general maintenance to do. Only...
We all managed 130 + mph in our Clio 182’s on the Autobahn when we went to the ring. I was in my race car, no interior, no sound proofing, plastic windows etc and it was surprisingly stable but the noise was horrendous.
We flew past a VW van which turned out to be the local rozzers. They pulled...
I only have one Milwaukee tool - the M12 FIWF12 Fuel™ 1/2in Friction Ring Impact Wrench. Replaced my old DeWalt and had it a couple of years now. Certainly easy to use, feels nice in the hands and battery seems to last. Torque figures are a bit hairy fairy mind as it's supposed to torque up to...
As above although I use a flat piece of hardwood on the jack as well. The head on the jack is fairly narrow so I use the wood to bridge across the chassis plates. I’ve also put the jack on the rear axle beam as close to the damper plate as possible without issues
Supplied by Remy, but refurbished Renault parts. I had to use my old carriers but I’m sure you’ll find a set cheap enough
Just can’t remember the price I paid, sorry, but I know it was less than those refurbed versions as I’d looked at them prior
I think those are on an exchange basis only, so unless you’ve got a set to swap you’re screwed. Most offers tend to be on exchange. I bought some from DMFX in Darlington and paid the surcharge. Set me back less than that.
