Yup, as TEG says, read the stickies and practice. (And about this section falling on its arse which is a shame!)
Make sure you are setup on a tripod where you want the shot and try every possible combination. Shoot in RAW too. Makes editing so much easier.
So if there is no/very little street...
Field of view of a GoPro is ridiculous. If you are pointing it at the right direction then you will get it in shot.
I'd go Gopro as you can get spare batteries too.. Not sure which one to go for though.
I've got a Hero, the cheapest one you can get and it's very limited on what you can do...

Last night. There is a very faint sign of aurora. This was taken after I'd spent an hour getting a timelapse of the aurora on the coast.
I have a load to edit but I forgot my laptop charger this morning!
Nice.
We're going to Little Haven for a week on Saturday so will be looking for some NT places to visit.
That doesn't look pram friendly. Might look on their site though and look at taking him in a carrier (or the back of my camera bag!)
Look at framing your shots a bit better.
The waterfall...
Love that last shot!
I'm gutted that the snow has fallen in time for me to start me shift at work. Hopefully there will be some left when I'm on my off shift.
Some of shots from that last couple of days
Moon - Halo? by Aaron, on Flickr
Turns out it was just refraction from the 14mm samyang lens and no astro phenomenon!

I have BT and pay £63 for unlimited 72mb fibre, calls and tv including BT sports.
It's shocking though. Can't use the HD channels as they keep crashing so end up using the smart tv for that. Recording of two channels is decent though.
Lookin at going to sky when my contract is up.
I started off with this one. It used to be £25 from Tesco but can't see it there anymore. It's been everywhere with me nice and light, goes to a low level (unlike the one you linked) and is solid.

You can hook your camera bag on too if...
That is only a remote shutter though, useless for timelapse, unless you are going to time your shots manually.
Should be fine for long exposure etc though although it looks like an IR remote which means you need to be in front of the camera where the IR beam is.
Can't see any wired remotes...
No. Unless you want to sit there with your fingers on the shutter timing yourself, you will need an intervalometer. That's one of the issues with buying a ten year old camera though I suppose. Looking on Google, most of the links are now dead. You might not be able to do it with this model.
I...
Talk photography is a very useful site for pretty much anything photography related.
Get on Flickr too and have a search for your camera body. You'll then see the images taken with it and the lenses used, gives you an idea of what it's capable of with what lens.
Other than that, just get out...
It'll be a good walkabout lens and you'll get some good landscape shots with it but it won't be super wide.
Use it for a while. Get used to the camera and then have a look at other lenses. The 10-20 will be a good one for you though when you do decide to get more lenses.
This was at 10mm on my old 10-20, 30 seconds, f4, iso 6400. Don't be afraid to push the iso. This was on a canon 550d in July a couple of years ago. The glow in the distance is light pollution from a fairly small town about 20 miles away.
The road by Aaron, on Flickr
As James says, light pollution it having an effect on your shots. The way to resolve this is by going miles away from populated areas, and I do mean miles!
You have a bit of trailing in your second image, can't see the exif details because the picture is set to private but if it's 30 seconds...
Just get out and use it. Be careful of any colour cast but that can be corrected in photoshop etc.
What did you get? I have a 3 slide set, cokin p I think and on 24mm (ff) I see the holder on the edges. It was the same using it on my 10-20 on crop so you have to zoom in a bit or crop it out...
Very nice set. Shame about the cloud cover though but it works in favour in some of the images.
The one with the bottle, I'd have left a bit more room at the bottom if I'm being picky. Other than that, a cracking set.
