I'll be in a similar position soon,
Would a top end rebuild on it's own make sense following a successful compression/leak test?
Or would it not make much sense (cost and time wise) compared to a full rebuild?

It's your car ;) but can't see white looking as good as silver (Or anthracite or black to mention other non standard colours) Were they from Renault or from someone else?
Personally imo a car should always be driven and detailed.
It's a car and not a driveway/garage trinket. But even though a car is tracked and driven doesn't mean it shouldn't be detailed and looked after.
Personally I think if you use proper products as Toby mentioned to protect the paint...
