It's the de-cat. There is no catalytic converter, so the fuel just goes to the outside world. They stink, especially on warm up as it should be a little rich to try and get the cat hot so it does its job quicker.

Why would it be cheaper..? It isn't VAT free. If your own company bought it as an asset then that has its advantages.

Never had a virus or issue in the last decade. As above, just don't click anything too stupid. As for the expense, it should last you a decade if you want it to. I think my first MacBook was about £900 and I sold it for £600 about 4 years later.
