Yeah, it’s perfect for my type of photography. Extreme sports or the pro that absolutely needs those crucial shots then maybe you’d want to look at something better, but in general it’s fine :) I love the images compared to APS-C cameras in my experience, the files it produces just look special...
James uses his for motorsport and it’s fine, the AF on the 5D2 is easily a match for my D7000 in practise, I think people who are used to ultra-fast pro action orientated cameras lose some perspective in camera reviews etc, the 5D2’s AF is made out to be a lot worse than it is.
My guess would be that the Sony is better specs wise, but if you're investing in a system that you will take further I'd go for the Canon. It's a safe choice basically, a lot of people go for Canon so there's lots of resources and forums to do with it too should you need any help/advice.
I'm...
My new camera arrived today, and I already love it, despite not even having a lens for it yet (that'll be Saturday). The big pro body ergonomics are really refreshing after the D7000's smaller grip, it just feels incredibly comfortable to hold and the grip moulds to your hand nicely. The...
The new camera is set to arrive on wednesday, so I need a sale on my 50mm F1.4 in order to fund a 50 for the 5D, I’m having to borrow one for a few days to try it out as it stands. So all you Nikon shooters or people who know Nikon shooters get in touch for a fantastic fast 50 :)
Haha, I do go overboard with it sometimes, I resisted the temptation this time and only did one :p I can't help but feel that some of the shots lose some impact without it, the backgrounds look distracting and strange, that might change when I get the 5D, the photos look good enough to leave...
Thanks all, I wish I could get a media pass, that'd get me some shots I've tried to get from the boundaries of the spectator areas but I couldn't. Oh well, in a few years eh!
And Nick, I might send it to the team's Facebook page or something :)

You could even set it to auto ISO in aperture priority and then it’s just automatic with you controlling the aperture alone. That’d suit that lens, the way I see it is that if you get a fast prime shoot it wide open whenever possible, as that’s the whole point. Good to see you’re enjoying it...
That shot would have looked great at f1.8, John. If it makes it easier for you put the camera in aperture priority at f1.8 and let the camera expose the image for you :)
Sounds good! I can’t wait to get a 50 on full frame, I’ve used the exact combo I’m buying before and loved it. I bet 35 is quite wide on FF though isn’t it? 50 on FF isn’t long at all.
Have you got it yet, Matt? I’m going to get a Sigma 50mm f1.4 for the 5D2 like I had for my D7000, but I’m hesitant just incase they bring out a new 50 F1.4 :/
